  2. The mystery of how big our Universe really is [Click] We may not be far from the day when we know what the Hubble Constant is; that should allow us to accurately estimate the size and age of our universe, and may point the way to a change in the Standard Model of Cosmology. Just as the latest CERN experiments [Click] may point the way to a new standard model of physics! Makes me think of space aliens coming out of a wormhole. . .

  3. Yes, but keep in mind that the dollar is just an IOU and has no intrinsic value. The semblance of value has been artificially maintained via the systematic rationing of the currency via two mechanisms: Congress' claim to be able to issue only the currency that has been first collected as a tax and, at the other end, the promotion of hoarding by accumulators who lend rather than spend. Now this system has been exposed as false first by the CARES Act under the auspices of Trump and now the ARPA on which Biden has signed off.
Interestingly, ARPA was made necessary by the fact that the infusion of currency by the CARES Act did not have the desired effect. Banks, for example, were not able to inject more than $47 Billion into the economy in nine months, leaving over $443 Billion on the table. In addition, because they have been rendered very cautious, householders, instead of spending the cash distribution, put the money into savings accounts that hardly anyone wants to borrow. That money is worthless unless it is moving is gaining recognition. Which means that four decades of preaching the vitues of saving money has to be reversed. That is going to take a while.
Of course, of money is worthless, then using it as a signifier of wealth is useless. Which is why we now have people like the Koch Brothers trying to become significant by championing good government.

    1. Yeah, but there has to be some medium of exchange. And small green pieces of paper are much more portable than gold nuggets or silver ingots or handfuls of rubies or whatnot. I'd rather be paid in dollars than in sacks of wheat or hogsheads of beer.

    2. I found Marx's theory of value very interesting. Probably there are different theories today, but I have not had occasion to read any of them. He discusses earlier theories.

    3. C. H. Douglas's Social Credit theory is also very interesting; I gather that modern economists pooh-pooh it.

90% of Vermonters over 70 yo have been vaccinated.
75% over 65 are fully vaccinated, 86% at least one dose.
Death rate is therefore falling off.

  5. I am deep into prepping Easter packages for the kidz and grands. I have to get them mailed before my 3:00pm meeting tomorrow because on Thursday and into Friday we are getting 5-10" of snow.

And since I'm still making some of the gifts, wish me luck!

Well, I haven't had to yet.

  6. Good visit with physical therapist. I.e., she's delighted with my progress (lack of pain). *And* that I'm doing variations on what she gave me. (boredom, lol!) Still can hardly believe all this is working, after so many months of nothing working very well. Seems we have a conjunction between the prednisone and the physical therapy.. . . . Keep up the prayer/rainbows, it's working! And so many many thanks.
