Texas Electric Bills Were $28 Billion Higher [Click] “Texas’s deregulated electricity market, which was supposed to provide reliable power at a lower price, left millions in the dark last week. For two decades, its customers have paid more for electricity than state residents who are served by traditional utilities,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
Can't think of anything appropriately waspish to say.
It's a pity and a shame in the face of the day how good people get fleeced by Republicans who tell them that government and its commonsense regulations is their enemy.
Illinois' electricity market is thoroughly deregulated. I can chose from among maybe two dozen electricity suppliers. (The electricity is _distributed_ by the regulated utility ComEd.) No blackouts despite unusually heavy snow. Haven't heard whether there has been any effect of prices. And yes, I pay more. That's because I get 100% renewable electricity -- something I couldn't do if I had to deal with a regulated monopoly.
This morning my upper arm where I had the Pfizer vaccine yesterday was hurting a little, just enough to make me consider taking a dose of acetaminophen. But as I expected, it improved after I got up and moving. A little more discomfort than a typical flu shot, but after all, I have never been exposed to this virus before; a stronger reaction is not surprising.
Miyoko felt rather tired for two days afterward. I felt tired the evening of the vaccination, but it was not clearly outside the range of my customary sloth, and I hadn't slept well the night before. A few of Miyoko's friends and acquaintances, and their friends and acquaintances, had the Moderna vaccine, and several of them seemed to have stronger (in one case pronounced) reactions to it--still nothing at all in comparison to being put on a ventilator.
Vermont has crossed the 200 mark on deaths. 😢 So it's good to see the case numbers dropping. We are being super careful because it would be terrible to get the virus now when we're so close to getting the vaccine. Positivity Rate down to 1.5% Death Rate holding at 1.4%

Why? They've never tried to direct the conversation or frame the narrative before. And look how well letting the Republicans do that has worked for them. :P Why should they change their ways now?
Sorry for the snark attack. Not feeling at all well today.
Is this the time to bring back postal banking to the detriment of those horrible check cashing and cash advance compaines, and expand it into an Internet Service Provider, like Deutsche Post?
And the official estimate of Covid-19 deaths is arguably a significant underestimate.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Alan. I very much appreciate the description and hope your reaction to the second dose isn't too harsh.
