The Days are Getting Longer!

  1. Just wanted to say thanks again for all the love this past week.
It was a rough ride, and we'll never be completely out of the woods.
But the sun is shining again.

    1. It's going to take time to decompress from that; be nice to yourselves.

  2. It seems that the Nashville bomber has been identified. No mention of a motive so far, but I still suspect it might have been a billing dispute.

    1. A billing dispute? You mean with AT&T? A hell of a way to make a point!

And what about those suspected human remains?

    2. When they described the remains as "tissue" I thought that sounded like something quite small, but maybe they were just trying to sound scientific. It does all sound rather emphatic.

  3. I just ordered a CD Mom would have enjoyed, but now she's ill it won't mean a lot to her, except maybe a familiar voice. It's Jim Neighbors complete Columbia Christmas recordings. We had the second of Jim's Christmas albums on 8 Track and it was always a favorite, especially on long car trips. BTW if you've never driven from the northern Virginia suburbs of D.C. to the Tennessee border you probably won't believe what a loooooong drive it is! Virginia is not a small state. Anyway, I really, really wish it had occurred to me to look for this album in previous years. I already have the complete Columbia Christmas recordings by both Andy Williams and Robert Goulet. Jim Neighbors isn't quite on the same level of favorite, but he's way up there. I selected priority shipping. Maybe it'll come before the end of the Christmas season.

    1. Google Maps says it's about eight or nine hours steady driving on the Interstates from DC to Knoxville; and it must pass over at least two or three mountain ranges. I remember flying into DC in the afternoon; seeing it from above made the old maps come alive. Easy to see why the Shenandoah Valley was a natural invasion route for the Confederacy but didn't work that way in reverse.

    2. I'm betting Mom is going to love the album and will perk up when its on. I'm basing this on the understanding that (barring deafness) hearing is the last sense to go. I once visited an elderly friend who was dying. Her daughter met me at the door and told me she was no longer responding. But I went in anyway, of course, held her hand awhile, then prayed the Lord's Prayer out loud. And she joined in and said it too. It was a bit clumsy, but that mattered not. She was still able to respond to what her heart recognised.

May Mom's spirits really be lifted up by your thoughtful gift!

  5. Ohio has changed the way it reports COVID numbers, so I guess I'm taking a break from that.

So tired of everything. I got at least TEN "give me money" emails from Jon Ossoff today.

    1. Unsubscribe. I know it's a PITA but it's worth it. Remember too that the same candidate's name doesn't mean every e-mail came from the same organization. My life has been more tranquil - marginally - since I took to hitting "Unsubscribe" every time an e-mail pissed me off. You can never get completely in front of it, but constantly unsubscribing from crap you don't want helps.

    2. My spam blocker does pretty well--puts them all into a suspect mail folder, from which I might save one or two, then trash the rest with two or three keystrokes. Ossoff IS becoming rather obnoxious, I must say.
