Now there are two cuties! I forgot to get the Covid numbers for 11/2. Went to the grocery, took a couple of hours and my knee paid me back in full! Ow!
Well, here are the numbers, late for 11/2 Covid cases 221,909 and 5,340 deaths.
I'm going to *try* to stay away from TV and social media tomorrow. Don't think I can handle the stress and anxiety.
Good morning. Dixville Notch did a landslide for Biden. 5 votes. First time in 60 years that a candidate from a major party got not a single vote. I still have not figured out what Republicans were thinking in 2015-16.
I've been pretty careful; mask and nitrile gloves almost all the time outside of the house, except for gardening and walking on our normally almost empty street.
My daughter’s young priest does a little election novena service each day at noon. Yesterday’s was with his kids up in their treehouse. It was mayhem with the littlest, but he has a great sense of humour and punts well. Ha! Today’s was just him standing outside, downtown (in Maine), and in his closing prayer he basically expressed that nothing can separate us from the love of God and the pursuit of justice, and in his elegant list of “principalities and powers” he included “not even that other guy winning.” Cracked me up! I wondered which half of his congregation that was addressed to. 😉
I have met many many clergy in my lifetime, but none as energetic and deep, cheerful and theologically sound as Andrew. He’s like a human Chickadee! 😁

NBC News reports there’s “early concern” inside the Trump campaign about Election Day turnout activities in Pennsylvania.
Said one person with direct knowledge of the campaign’s operations: “The team in Pennsylvania was not as prepared as it should be in a state that could decide the presidency.”
“Some advice as the returns come in: if the initial results look skewed to you, that’s because they will be. The unprecedented partisan polarization of mail/early votes and Election Day ballots is likely to lead to a ‘blue mirage’ in the Sun Belt and a ‘red mirage’ in the North, and my final pre-election story for NBC News [Click] takes a look at this phenomenon. Be cautious and be patient.” The NBC story is well worth clicking through to read.
Well, an explanation presupposes familiarity with The Bob Newhart Show, which I presume you also lack. You're just gonna have to trust me that the meme is both funny and apposite.
About half an hour ago my sister got a begging text from Martha MacSally and had to ask me who she was. Sis occasionally gets e-mail, texts and even snail mail from Republicans, but at least she recognizes the name. And not so close to the wire. Sheesh! MacSally(sp?) must be really desperate, the poor dear.
NC 73% of vote counted, Biden holding steady, ahead about 5% FL and GA look like they will go for Trump. Texas about 65% counted, Trump is closing in on Biden Ohio 52%, Biden ahead by 9%

The incomplete Michigan results reflect a Trump advantage because the largest chunk is coming from Oakland County’s Election Day vote. Many more absentee votes are still out.
Should have relied on your reportage, Alan. I've been watching The Hill TV and getting mighty downhearted. One interesting point: a panelist said that if Biden loses, the Democratic Party will splinter irreparably. That sounds about right to me.
I think I will have a spot of ice cream (I am feeling much better after being lazy all day long) and then watch the first one or two Harry Potter movies.
I'm decamping too. Have to put flannel sheets on my bed. Then going to crawl into it, possibly with a second pint of ice cream. Hey, as Sis said, it's better than a fifth or two of scotch. As it happens, I have the first Harry Potter book and several Tolkien books on my iPad. There's also the Siriusly Sinatra channel on Sirius XM. Spent most of last night listening to that while not sleeping. So, lots of choice.
Illinois update: As expected, Illinois has been called for Biden and Durbin. Dems have again failed t flip the two downstate House seats the challenged. The two suburban/exurban seats they flipped last time look like toss-ups, but for some reason votes are very slow to come in. And it looks bad for the Fair Tax constitutional amendment. One difficulty is that the amendment requires either 60% of the votes on that issue or 50% of all votes cast.
Senate updates per my emails: Hickenlooper has flipped Colorado. McGrath in Kentucky and Bioller in Kansas have conceded. The email from Hager in Texas sounded like a concession but wasn't explicitly. Of course, all of these three states were supposed to be out of reach to begin with.

ReplyDeleteYeah, we were surprised. It has long been a Republican stronghold. Times have changed.
DeleteI’m under the weather this morning—sure hope it isn’t the coronavirus, but it does seem to be some sort of virus.
ReplyDeleteRuh roh.

Where might you have picked up a virus? Grocery shopping?

ReplyDeleteVermont goes to Biden!
ReplyDeleteAnd Peter Welch is easily re-elected.
And Peter Welch voted for Biden.
DeleteFrom NYT:
ReplyDeleteNC 73% of vote counted, Biden holding steady, ahead about 5%
FL and GA look like they will go for Trump.
Texas about 65% counted, Trump is closing in on Biden
Ohio 52%, Biden ahead by 9%
They are saying Florida is too close to call.
DeleteWith 37% of votes tallied, Biden is well ahead of Trump in Kansas. Probably reflects faster counting in cities, I suppose.

Early Michigan results don’t make sense—heavily pro-Trump. Maybe Detroit hasn’t reported?
ReplyDeleteOhio looks to be a real squeaker.
Biden continues to lead, now by about one per cent., in NC with 82% counted.
In Florida, with 93% counted and holding, Trump leads 51:48, and they say it is too close to call.
With 76% of the vote counted, Trump leads Biden by 2% in Texas.

Arizona, 69% counted, Biden leads 55:44
ReplyDeleteUtah, only 29% counted, Biden leads 54:43.
ReplyDeleteUtah? I thought they were reliably GOP.
