  1. Cat--comments at end of previous thread re Russians vs. wolves. (I gather there were legends of packs of spectral wolves, too.)

  2. Many midwest Democrats stayed home in 2016. Will they turn out for Biden? [Click] For but one example, “Ohio could be decided by a few thousand voters in Cleveland, where less than half the population is registered to vote.” Mind boggling.

    1. The NH Union Leader story is a big deal. They were known for decades for always endorsing the Republican.

  4. "A personal aide to Vice President Mike Pence — known informally as a “body man” who accompanies the Vice President throughout his day — has also contracted the novel coronavirus, the Washington Post reports."

I think that translates as "Pence should become symptomatic within the next five days."

  6. Clouds began to appear this morning, and by 1PM completely covered the sky, but there is no rain in the forecast. AQI = 37 ("Good"). It looks like the upper midwest and southeast are in for some serious weather; wonder if that will depress voter turnout.

  7. We picked about half the remaining Giant Fuyu persimmons today. I kept looking at one and thinking that besides being a beautiful orange color, it looked quite large; finally I weighed it: 510g = 18 ounces.

    1. WOW! That sounds nothing at all like the wild persimmons my grandmother and I used to pick.

    2. One thing I find particularly interesting about persimmons (at least the cultivated varieties) is how strongly alternate bearing they are. Observing our two trees, I discovered how they do it. Every other year a tree puts out one stem of male flowers, that dies after doing its job.

  8. A good interview with Cory Booker—the Senate, the Supreme Court, Trump, etc. [Click] Others differ, but I remain of the opinion that Booker ought to be presidential timber.

  10. GOP Senate Majority Besieged on Multiple Front [Click] “Democrats began the 2020 election cycle with only a narrow path back to the Senate majority. But entering the final week before the election, there are competitive races everywhere. . .[Republicans’] defensive posture underscores just how broad the playing field is, with nearly a dozen Republican senators in various levels of danger, and only two Democratic seats at risk.”

    1. If you go the original story, remember that it is from Politico, which has a habitual “Democrats in trouble” bias.

  12. I fell to poking around the area where I grew up, using the Google camera car; oddly enough, it has changed quite a bit in sixty years. . .

    1. A few years ago I went back for my 50th HS reunion. BIG changes. What used to be the downtown was mostly vacant lots. The neighborhood I grew up in was totally unrecognizable. Paved streets where there used to be brambles. Even the house I grew up in would have been hard to recognize because the front porch had been enclosed.
