  1. Trump Leads Pro-Plague States of America to a COVID Civil War [Click] “He is telling us plainly that he will stoke civil unrest and further harm public health to find a political pathway out of a galactic-scale fuck-up of his own making.”

  2. “Seeking to avoid the bitter feelings that marred the 2016 Democratic convention, Joe Biden’s campaign is angling to allow Bernie Sanders to keep some of the delegates he would otherwise forfeit by dropping out of the presidential race,” the AP reports. [Click] Well, that’s something.

    1. Well, it’s like anything a salesman is trying to sell you...what’s in it for him, eh?
But it does show that our resistance was deemed consequential after all.

    2. This afternoon they sent me an e-mail asking for money (big surprise). I unsubscribed, and they gave me the option of telling them why, which I did (in part).

  3. The lost month [Click] “Trump says he took ‘strong action’ in February to stop coronavirus. Here’s the full picture.” A lengthy refresher.

  4. Something other than politics: [YAY!] A lengthy ecology column. The Case of the Missing Bacteria [Click] Microbes in our gut are essential to stay healthy, but scientists are coming to realize that isn’t the case for all animals.

  5. Operation reopen America: are we about to witness a second historic failure of leadership from Trump? [Click] Up until now, James Buchanan arguably has been the worst president of the US because he didn’t prevent the Civil War, which cost about 700,000 lives. With the rising coronavirus death toll, might Trump surpass Buchanan on that point as well as maladministration?

I better get to work on my art projects etc. Rain again during the night (it is very unusual to have rain so late in the year, but it has been off and on for weeks), so gardening is unreasonable. I also need to do my stretching exercises and refill the pill dispensers so we can know what day it is.

  8. Coronavirus wave overwhelming Japanese hospitals [Click] The damned fool politicians didn’t take advantage of all the advance notice they had to prepare. One factoid in the story was news to me: the very low proportion of ICU’s in Japan. Japan has, as I recall, far more hospital beds per capita than the US.

  9. U.S. Shipped Millions of Face Masks to China [Click] Not the first mention of this, but more detail. And let’s not forget Trump’s offer of ventilators to Russia, which Putin accepted a couple of days ago.

The [UK] government will attempt to gain control of the mounting PPE concerns by appointing Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London Olympics organising committee, to lead efforts to produce [PPE] equipment in Britain! Oh, God. . .

  13. So, upper left corner is the election countdown timer I was able to find. It takes a little while to load, but it does work. I can leave it there or get rid of it. Thoughts?

    1. If you're paying attention to hr:min:sec that shows the polls closing at 7:00 PM CDT. Are we still on Daylight Time then? I can't remember. Of course, that assumes the timer syncs to the viewer's geographical location.

But regardless, I find it nice to have.

  14. Today, Illinois had its most new Covid-19 case ever, rather dashing my hopes the lockdown might end at the start of June. The new-case doubling time is increasing, though. To put that in other words, the curve is at least flattening somewhat.
