Seriously...

  1. “You can tell how good I feel by how nervous the establishment is getting. We’re their worst nightmare.”
    — Sen. Bernie Sanders, quoted by the Associated Press.

“Newly installed panels from the U.S. border wall fell over in high winds Wednesday, landing on trees on the Mexican side of the border,” CNN reports.

  3. Massachusetts votes on March Third as well. My application for absentee ballot has been mailed.

Alan, I read a few of the candidate statements. I thought Hawkins' was far and a way the most complete and compelling. Warren's and even Bernie's seemed kind of offhand; the sort of thing that would motivate someone who was already a supporter, but wouldn't encourage a waverer to give them a try. Hawkins really laid it all out there. Not that he has a chance. Though I wholeheartedly support his program, I feel more comfortable with someone who has been a mayor, congressman and senator and who, therefore, understands the system and has contacts.

It's all for naught anyway. The media do everything they can to besmirch Bernie. Biden won't support him even in the unlikely event he gets the nomination. It's good to hear Yang thinks his supporters may go to Bernie, though the one Yang supporter I know is unlikely to do so. And if Bernie doesn't get the nomination, what then? How many people even know Hawkins exists? And how many of those will vote for him as opposed to those who give up and don't vote at all?

  4. Joe Biden Said No Scientist Supports Bernie Sanders’ Climate Plan. Dozens Just Did.. The thing seems to be that Biden misunderstands what Bernie is proposing. He said, "You can not get to zero emissions by 2030. It’s impossible." But what Bernie proposes is a 71% cut by that date. Both Bernie and Biden set 2050 as the date for zero emissions. Whether the specific goals can be met is unclear, but I am among those with a scientific background who think Bernie's plan points the way we need to go.

    1. The more I hear about what Biden says, the more out-of-touch he sounds.

  5. I am sure it can be done if we want to do it. We can go to carbon neutral automobile, truck and train fuel with existing technology; using renewable energy, capture carbon dioxide from the air and turn it into liquid fuels equivalent to gasoline, diesel fuel and fuel oil. Of course it is turned back into carbon dioxide that way, but it can also (with the right kind of mineral deposits) be permanently sequestered in construction materials resembling concrete, which makes the process carbon negative. Pilot plants have already been built and tested, and small industrial scale plants are being built. Sewage has an amazing amount of recoverable energy, and pilot plants are running. That transition could, in my opinion, be made faster than electric cars could be made practical.

Thinking of big development efforts, did you know that development of the B-29 bomber during WWII was way bigger than the Manhattan Project?

    2. I know a little bit about building the bombers, having not too long ago read The Arsenal of Democracy: FDR, Detroit, and an Epic Quest to Arm an America at War by A. J. Baime. A fascinating book, though there's probably nothing new in it for real WWII buffs.

    1. First of all, I hate the term "accuser". The correct term is alleged victim. Beyond that, I hope she succeeds in obtaining the sample, and that the sample proves whatever crime she is alleging.

  9. Sen. Patrick Leahy was interviewed today on Vermont Public Radio just before the Senate reconvened. He said that if, when he was in law school, he had posited what Alan Dershowitz presented yesterday he would have been thrown out of law school on the spot.

  11. Well, that’s that.
Sen. Lamar Alexander has announced that he will vote tomorrow against witnesses. There won’t be enough votes to make it happen. DT will be acquitted late tomorrow night.

I am not going to watch the State of the Union on Tuesday night. No freaking way.

    1. Errr... Why does not allowing witnesses equate to acquittal?

    2. It was an absolute given from the beginning that Trump was not going to be convicted. Conviction requires a 2/3 majority, and even in our wildest dreams that wasn't going to happen. Not allowing witnesses means there is nothing left but the final vote. Which Trump will call acquittal.

  12. Cat, it’s because Witnesses was the only step left before Acquittal.

We have been shafted by the Republican Senate.

What’s on our side? Flipping the Senate and the fact that an aging Senate will be replaced by younger people.

Folks really need to vote for good people. (But you knew that.)
