Iran's assault on US bases in Iraq might satisfy both sides [Click] “Tehran can show it has retaliated over the assassination of Qassem Suleimani, while US may shrug off limited nature of strike.” Well, maybe; we shall see what the morrow brings.
I don’t see much news about US-Iran contention this morning. Maybe (1)cooler heads got DT calmed down, and maybe (2)Iran figured right—that Trump would fold.
I also don’t yet see much this morning about the Democratic presidential contest, aside from self-styled pundits/talking heads whose speculation seems to show they don’t have a clue.
David Frum: Americans Aren't Rallying to Trump [Click] “A president who writes off half the country can't expect to garner support from a crisis of his own making.” I don’t agree with some of how Mr. Frum’s descriptions, but his basic thesis seems unarguable.
It's all very, very well that both Iran and the U.S. have pulled back from conventional warfare, and more or less placated their citizenry. But Iran's response simply doesn't seem proportionate to the assassination of General Suleimani. I expect that further payment will be exacted, when and where Iran thinks it will be most punishing and least suspected, and quite possibly with plausible denial on the part of Iran. Remember the Iran Hostage Crisis? [Click] It helped to elect Ronnie Ray Gun. I'm not saying that approach would be followed, but it is plausible that the Iranian government could do things that would help a/the Democratic nominee. And they can take their time.
Ukraine just can't catch a break.

ReplyDeletePotential psychological effects of common medicines. [Click] Wow. My sweetie can’t tolerate ibuprofen—its effect on her is similar to methamphetamine—pathological excitement.
