Mansard Roof across the street from the Bunker Hill Monument

You can buy a one bedroom condo in this building for about a million dollars!

  1. How to Beat Donald Trump [Click] “A Tip for the Democratic Contenders: Mock Him, Laugh at Him, Goad Him into Ever Lower Depths of Crazy.” Easier said than done, but possible. I think of how Lincoln would make a point by telling a story, often humorous. I also recall that Coolidge had to restrain his natural sense of humor because it was so often misunderstood.

    1. Haven't read that yet, but I agree. His desperate effort to shore up and protect his fragile ego makes him vulnerable. He cannot tolerate being criticized or laughed at - yet he give us so much material to work with!

    2. Oh, I heartily agree. They need to at least pretend not to take him seriously. He will implode! At the same time they need to speak with seriousness about the issues. Imagine not mentioning him AT ALL when talking about real issues? Basically, no need to reveal him as the traitorous sleezebag and racists arse that he is. Just let him show that to the world himself.

  2. Bernie’s fundraising computer (I don’t think humans are involved) has its wires crossed. I make a recurring monthly contribution—not a lot, but regular. The computer asked me repeatedly for a crazy big donation ($187 and some odd cents? I mentioned it here). Now it is asking me for two dollars and change.

Warren’s campaign asked me if I would do a neighborhood canvass; that shows a lack of familiarity with this area. The only people who do that sort of thing around here are the Jehova’s Witnesses. I would frankly be afraid to try, given all the wingers and the general level of nastiness in this neighborhood.

    1. I don't think the computer is crazy. First point is that in my experience no political campaign and very few charities recognize a recurring contribution as a reason not to keep dinging you. As for asking for widely varying and sometimes arbitrary amounts of money -- well, you keep trying in hopes something works. I doubt if the algorithm is personalized.

  4. WaPo: Biden, Booker attack Trump and racism with scathing words—and different messages. [Click] I must admit they both sound pretty good—and better than Bernie and Warren. I will have to see if I can find their speeches on YouTube.

    1. I think Booker is by far the most accomplished public speaker among the Democratic presidential candidates. I am surely influenced by the public speaking class I took in college (it was a graduation requirement, and among the most useful classes I took--even though I didn't want to).

    2. I can't agree that Biden sounds good from a public speaking point of view. He says "um" so much it's distracting, pauses too much and falters his sentences. He can say something worth listening to, but it's sure feels like pulling teeth to listen to it.

    3. I meant he says "uhh" too much. Of course, he also says "um."

    5. Corrected:
I sure noticed that in his introduction; but it seemed to decrease when he got into his speech. If one doesn't know what s/he is going to say next, s/he says "uh." I admit that sounding more presidential than DT is a very low bar. And I can't see voting for Biden. But just getting "red flag" background checks through Congress won't do much. IMO.
