The Best Democratic Health Plan [Click] “How health insurance works now, and how the candidates want it to work in the future.” Long, but looks like a promising read. ======================== I see that I can now print the boarding pass for my flight to Seattle tomorrow. I am off to the annual reunion on Whidbey Island [Click] of my recently discovered herd of cousins. I am also determined to bite the bullet and do some plein air ink and watercolor sketching. I will purposely not be taking my laptop with me, so I will be absent here. Returning late Sunday evening, first meeting of our (Miyoko and I are both enrolled) studio watercolor course is 0900 hrs Monday. Maybe I will drop by here Monday afternoon or evening.
Very helpful. I will miss being Alan-informed these next few days. I hope the reunion is fun and that Alan and Miyoko have a fun time in watercolour class. I loved the one I took...even though it taught me that I don't naturally think in terms of leaving white and filling in so much as using oils that cover over. I am still in touch with my watercolour teacher.
Washington Post: “None of the eight patients still being treated at University Medical Center in El Paso agreed to meet with Trump when he visited the hospital, UMC spokesman Ryan Mielke said. Two victims who already had been discharged returned to the hospital with family members to meet with the president.”
politicalwire.com: “While visiting shooting victims and medical personnel at a hospital in El Paso, a video shows President Trump started bragging about the size of the crowd at his rally before attacking Beto O’Rourke.”
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman told CNN that aides to President Trump think he behaved disastrously yesterday while he was supposed to be consoling the victims of the El Paso and Dayton shootings.Said Haberman: “Most people – while they would I suspect not say that publicly – will privately admit that yesterday was something of a debacle. These are not the headlines they wanted to see. They wanted him to go in and behave differently. The goal was to go in and get out with as little news as possible.”
Something of a debacle? What, pray tell, Ms Haberman, would make it a frank debacle? Or should you call it a “limited success,” as NASA does when they have a rocket blow up on the launch pad?
You guys know about "neighborhood spoof" calls? Where they use your area code and the first three digits of your phone number to trick you into picking up a scam call? Well, some genius is using my actual real number and I've gotten five spam calls from my own phone number today. Ugh.
Reminds me of the time we got a phone call about our daughter being in the hospital in Berkeley; as it happened, she was the one who picked up the call, right here in Fresno. Some of the UCB student health center records had been hacked. A few years back there were a lot of stories out of Japan (the same thing later had some vogue here) of fraudsters calling up and saying (typically to old people) something like "Grandma--it's me! It's me! I've been arrested! I need a lot of money or they will put me in jail!" Then it gets handed over to a fake police officer or fake attorney, and then Granny sends a bunch of money. I always thought I would like to respond along the lines of "Well, maybe this time you'll learn a lesson! It's about time you did--I'm never going to bail you out again; got that?"
I had cataract surgery yesterday and the followup visit this morning. Everything went fine. No significant improvement in visual acuity, since that is governed by the AMD-related retinal scarring. But the gray haze is gone. Everything is brighter, more colorful, and even a bit sharper. Good deal.
Bags packed and loaded into the car, ready for 0530 departure for airport; boarding begins at 0625. At that time of day half an hour suffices to get to the airport. I will probably rematerialize here Monday evening.
Thanks for the link, listener.

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it; some day I will presumably need the same surgery, but not yet.

ReplyDeleteOh, listener--I just can't accept that it has been eight years--it seems like maybe three or four at most.
