  1. PBS News Hour: Harris and Sanders set for 2020 showdown in delegate-rich California [Click] Interesting that the folks at PBS News ignore Warren. Current polls (there aren’t many) show roughly a four-way tie among Biden, Harris, Sanders, and Warren. Interesting to see the different campaign plans for Harris and Sanders; but without any paid staff in California Warren is running neck-in-neck with them. I don't find anything about Biden's campaigning in California--would be surprised if it amounts to a hill of beans. But the results in the "first four" states mean a lot in California.

  7. 7PM and it's still hot outside, no breeze. Gardening is cancelled except for watering the epiphytia and suchlike cacti.

  8. Today I finally got out into the garden again, after the long hiatus to work on the grand baby quilt. I managed to trim back some gone-by plants, and was pruning the Winterberry bushes when suddenly I felt a sharp poke in my back. For half a second I thought I'd backed into thorns, but when I got a second sharp stab further up and without backing into anything I realised I was being stung! I dropped the shears and raced to the house, in the front door, calling to Wil who, thankfully, was working from home today. Turned out there was a Yellow Jacket still under my shirt! Wil almost had it when it flew off of me and to the window. But when it saw me it made a true beeline straight for me and I ran! Wil caught it and we let it go outside.

So, what are your best remedies for Yellow Jacket sting pain? I was just reading that symptoms can worsen for 48 hours. It feels like I have needles in my back.
So far I've used ice, a baking soda paste, taken a shower, taken an antihistamine, applied vinegar, taken a pain killer, and applied some Exederm (gentle hydrocortisone cream that doesn't have fragrances, dye, paraben or propylene glycol).
Nothing has helped much except numbing it with ice (yes, wrapped in cloth). Other ideas??

My DIL is giving me some aloe from her big allow plant tomorrow. I don't have or wish to purchase meat tenderizer, so I need to see if anyone sells just the papain that it contains, which apparently helps stings.

It sure put a crimp on my gardening plans!!

We found the ground nest and it seems I was pretty much standing on it unawares. Tomorrow we'll attempt soaking them out of the nest by setting the hose by it and turning it on. If that isn't enough, we'll add a little Dawn dish soap. We'd really like to keep our garden organic! Ideas?
