There goes July

  1. Warren Warned How NOT To Talk About Health Care. She Was Ignored. [Click] Very good point. Does it mean that Warren is the only Democratic candidate who knows how to take the battle to the GOP?

Sanders Raised More Than $1 Million Since Last Night
July 31, 2019 at 2:41 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Sen. Bernie Sanders has raised more than $1 million for his presidential bid since he sparred with several moderate contenders during Tuesday night’s Democratic debate, The Hill reports.
The $1.1 million fundraising haul was bolstered by more than 70,000 donations.

    1. Wil and I helped! GO BERNIE!!

And, at Wil's request, we also made a small donation to Elizabeth Warren.

I very much appreciated that they didn't take the CNN bait and go after each other. I'm beginning to think they ought to run together after all! I'm fine with either one as President and the other as VP. Take the country forward by NOT running a negative campaign, and talk to the nation about what we CAN do, not what we can't do.

  5. Oh, how I despise CNN's approach of trying to get the candidates to go at each other. The two who didn't take that bait were Bernie and Elizabeth. I hope they can keep that up. When they HAVE TO differentiate, I hope they will do so with utmost regard for one another instead of with rancor. So far, so good.

    1. I suppose I was most surprised to be impressed with Yang tonight. He said some very pithy things. Tulsi Gabbard also did better than I was anticipating.

That got me thinking...What if most of the Dem candidates were drafted into the new Administration? What job would you give to each?

    1. Agreed. I only object to the article being written to make it sound like the building wrote a letter--but that's being picky.

  7. Re tonight's debate:

My impression is that Joe Biden was a punching bag, but he handled it better than in the first debate. He couldn’t make it go away, but he was not reduced to wordlessness this time.

Harris showed that she can do more than just gig Biden over busing. One commentator: “It seems the timing of the release of Kamala Harris’s health care plan was a masterstroke. It became the starting point for this debate and set the early terms of it. The California senator looked like the incumbent as all the others, including even Joe Biden, try to take pot shots.”

Corey Booker did well, and ought to get a bump in the polls. In addition to dealing with mass incarceration when dinging Biden, he was the only one to bring up voter suppression. I think his first statement on voter suppression was the best line of the evening:

“We lost the state of Michigan because everybody from Republicans to Russians were targeting the suppression of African American voters.” [emphasis added]

    1. Yeah, Joe did okay. But I also came away feeling he's not going to look strong next to DT. Sigh.

I was not impressed with Harris this time compared with the first debate she was in. I was grateful her record was brought up.

    2. I figure Harris's record in California is, to be polite, mixed. And she is a Clintonista, or to put it in other words, a New Democrat. She doesn't get my vote. I must admit that I consider age a factor to consider. IF Booker does well through Super Tuesday (think: South Carolina) I could certainly consider a Warren-Booker ticket; his voting record is nearly as progressive as Warren's. But it's a long way to Super Tuesday. I still like Bernie, and continue to send him a bit of money each month.
