    1. Storms reappropriate sand and drown predators. It often works out well for bird populations, as long as it doesn’t happen during nesting season.

  4. I don't think there will *be* two old white men on the ticket. Biden and Sanders are complete opposites.

  6. I can see why Bernie wouldn't commit to supporting the Nominee this time. in 2016 he did pledge his support and what did it get him? Cheated, that's what. Plus he campaigned for Hillary, pissed off some of his supporters and the Hillary nuts ignored his support and talked bad about him anyway. They still blame Bernie and his supporters for her loss rather than her terrible campaigning and the Electoral College's stupidity.

  7. Not terribly surprised I had to listen rather than watch -- my internet isn't really fast enough for TV. Makes it hard to keep track of who is talking, especially when people are talking other each other.

  8. Missed much of the second hour because my computer was acting up. Ended up with a very slow restart that let me hear the last minute of the debate. My biggest take-away from what I heard was that Gabbard lost me by focusing on her military experience. Especially the way she totally ignored the first question to talk about it. Too bad, because there were other things about her I liked.

  9. I was able to watch and listen to the whole thing on YouTube, in several segments--pushed the pause button, then the play button when I returned. Pretty neat. My abbreviated notes on the various candidates:

Beto seemed nervous and a bit shaken; he got better toward the end, but wasn't terribly effective.

Cory Booker--great speaker, debater! I could vote for him as President, and think he would make an incredibly good VP. Got in some very good responses.

Warren was nearly as effective a speaker as Booker, and repeatedly got the loudest applause. She got in some very good answers.

Castro--OK, but often got into talking over Beto. Not outstanding.

Gabbard--often non-responsive, falls back on what sounds like her stump speech about military experience. Worked around the question about her anti-gay work.

De Blasio--a good public speaker, obviously experienced, but too aggressive by half for my taste. That probably works in NYC.

Tim Ryan--not quite a Johnny one-note; more like a Johnny two-note. Would probably play well in the upper Midwest, but questionable outside of that. Denigrates people on the coasts. A bit of an anachronism.

Klobuchar--Doesn't come across as open or trustworthy--more calculating and smug (I may be doing her an injustice).

    Inslee--Johnny one-note.

Delaney--argues for half-measures, pleasing the GOP.

In sum, Warren and Booker definitely came across best IMO.
[My wife reminded me that whomever I support is doomed... but I am in the grip of the gambler's fallacy: the longer it has been since I won, the closer I am to winning.]

    1. I looked for a couple more videos of Cory Booker; I'll say this--he sure can deliver a stemwinder when he wants to!
