Looking around the Internet for commentary on the second Democratic primary debate, I find that others seem to tale roughly the same view as I. Here's one article of uncommon interest, I think:
We likes to tell people “We got married at 14.” LOL! But, in truth, he had just turned 19, and I was nearly 19. We planned and paid for the wedding ourselves.
I don't find the gerrymandering article the least convincing. At one point he mentions with apparent favor that some states are embracing independent nonpartisan redistricting boards, although everything else he says implies nonpartisan redistricting is bad. But does he honestly imagine that legislators elected from gerrymandered districts are going to adopt a nonpartisan board or put a petition to that effect on the ballot? No way! Not gonna happen. Maybe, just maybe, in states where you can finagle things onto the ballot by petition, but that doesn't help me. (I do note that if politicians were sufficiently worried about courts looking over their shoulders they might be more willing to shift the responsibility to someone else.
The morning-after-the-debate story seems to be how Kamala Harris Challenged Joe Biden On His Record On Race: ‘It’s Personal’ [Click] The fact that her team had an appropriate photo of her on hand to blast out to their viewing parties certainly indicates that the whole thing was planned in advance. But Biden and his handlers should have known it was coming and been prepared for it—just like Buttigieg was prepared for the officer involved shooting question. [Click] That response certainly does not seem to me to have been extemporaneous. If you didn’t watch the debate, believe me— the whole exchange between Harris and Biden is better than the limited excerpts in the news feeds. Go here [Click] and scroll ahead to 2:05.
Oregon GOP Lawmakers Will Return to Work Saturday [Click] In my opinion, once they are inside the chamber, the President Pro Tem should order the Sergeant at Arms to lock the doors, have the clock knocked off the wall, and proceed to call every bill that is pending. Very traditional. Maybe there is room for a porta-potty in the cloak room.
Our song was played just before the wedding processional.
One Love by the Carpenters
One love in my young life Took me somewhere I had never been, And I want to live again, breathe again In the shelter of his brightly woven love song. So long I have wanted love To be sitting just this near to me. Now my waiting heart is free.
Few are the choices we are given, The sands of time pass quickly by.
One dream of my young life Now stands holding out his hand to me. Now I can't help but believe That my whole life will be spent in one love.
Gee, that's all really so sweet, listener. A wedding was completely impossible for us, and in Japan it has no legal significance anyway. We took care of most of the US paperwork at the US Consulate in Tokyo, then went to the ward office to record it in accordance with Japanese law, then took those documents back to the Consulate to complete the US paperwork. It was the day after KAL 007 was shot down, and there were large demonstrations in the streets of the diplomatic quarter; the taxi driver got us around them by driving through alleys and hotel parking lots so we were just able to complete everything before the Consulate closed for lunch, which we had at the Hilton. It seems to be working all right so far--35 years and counting.
You figure he's a keeper, listener?

Oh, and the second debate is coming up on July 30th/31st with the same criteria for participation as for the first.
