Juan Cole posits, as I have, that the Houthis are quite reasonable suspects in the recent tanker attacks--they have the motive, quite possibly the ability, and nothing to lose. It would be absolutely human for them to have fighters who would be willing to go on what might be a suicide mission.
Among other reasons to doubt blathering about Iranian mines and torpedoes is that Iran does not have such small weapons in its naval inventory. There was one Iranian mine that went adrift in the Iran-Iraq war and was hit by a large merchant ship--it blew a fifteen-foot hole in the ship. Yes, Iran has submarines and they have torpedoes--big enough to sink warships. (Which just might explain why the Abraham Lincoln strike force has not entered the Persian Gulf--they are in the Arabian Sea, where they are not playing fish in a barrel.)
