I think this column makes a very good point: Braininess Is Now the Brand [Click] “For a party dependent on highly educated voters, Buttigieg’s rise and Warren’s resurgence foretell the future.” “To the debates over whether America is ready for a woman or a gay president, Warren and Buttigieg are adding an additional wrinkle: Is it ready for [an intelligent] president, too?” Well, the country was ready for TR a long time ago…
The Illiberal Right Throws a Tantrum [Click] “A faction of the religious right has concluded that if liberal democracy does not guarantee victory, then it must be abandoned.” This seems to go on at excessive length…
Elizabeth Warren Isn’t Hillary Clinton “Clinton had a lot of plans but no clear message. Warren’s genius has been to turn a lot of plans into a clear message. Clinton’s plans couldn’t dispel the sense that she was complicit in the status quo. Warren’s plans underscore her longstanding loathing of what American capitalism has curdled into.”
Cat--there's a question at the end of the "Elizabeth Warren Isn't Hillary Clinton" column that calls for comment from someone in Massachusetts. But it might be as puzzling for folks there as anywhere. Your input would be appreciated.
I admit to liking Warren more this time around than in the past. She seems less dyed-in-the-wool DNC. I wish she and Bernie would team up. They agree on nearly everything.
They may team up after the primaries are over and the candidates with a significant number of delegates start negotiating who the actual nominee will be.
The Democratic Party should shut the hell up about "electability". It's not something easily predicted because what it takes to get elected is *votes* and you can't see those in a crystal ball.
My Harriet Tubman stamp came yesterday to cover Andrew Jackson on the 20's. My #2 son is very nervous about it, but it's perfectly legal and my act of civil disobedience.
Sound like a gratifying revolutionary act. I read that the fellow manufacturing them and selling them on Etsy is doing increased business in the past few days!
YEEEE--HAAAAAA! I finally commenced the actual drills for my home study penmanship course that I purchased in October 2015! Developing muscle memory with drills that were standard a hundred and twenty years ago or somewhat more. This is what I missed out on in grammar school. At the rate I am going, I should have no difficulty completing the course before the beginning of the Fall Semester (when my watercolor course commences.
I am disappointed to learn that Tubman was to be on the face of the new $20 bill, and Jackson on the back. That would be inconsistent with all other US bills.
The schedule for the Democratic debates is out. Disappointingly, Mike Gravel didn't make it. Warren is on the first night and Bernie and Biden on the second.
Y’know what would be helpful going into the debates? We could make up a list of the top things we like and dislike about each candidate, then see if they live up to our list.
Six minutes isn't time to say much of anything; it's a first-rate challenge in public speaking to make a good first impression under such circumstances.

ReplyDeleteGenerally speaking, as I understand, when the Dems fall in love they win; when they try to play it safe, they lose.

ReplyDeleteYeah, that does sound weird...like the decision was made by committee.
