The article focuses on Twitter. I don't know from Twitter -- I'm not on it. I am on Facebook, but I only post politically in response to friends' posts. It's not really the place for political debate.
I downloaded the report they talked about. It was based on a YouGov survey -- I take YouGov surveys weekly and it's at least possible I was one of the 8000 people included. The report is 159 pages long so I just read the Foreword and Executive Summary. Although the fundamental point that political beliefs are shaped by core values is largely correct, it strikes me that their interpretation of the data is strongly shaped by their own ideological beliefs. And I see exactly the same thing in the article.
No argument here, Susan. I think his choice of running mate would be a significant factor; I want to see someone younger, and buy the idea that there is probably room for only one white male on the Democratic ticket. An exception might or might not be made for Buttigieg.
I just read some stuff I *really* did not like about Mayor Pete. He had an initiative called "1000 houses in 1000 Days". But basically he was bulldozing down substandard housing in black and Latino poor neighborhoods. He made some people very unhappy.
I read the story, Susan. It sounds like a string of rookie mistakes. I was impressed by the generosity of the people talking about his actions. Yes, he isn't ready for the big time--not that I thought he had a snowball's chance in Hades of becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. Sounds like the best place for him to have started would have been in the city offices.
I agree, and I did, Bill. I thought there was a minimum fundraising amount to qualify for the debate, but evidently I was mistaken. When I saw the list of suggested donations to choose from, I got a good laugh; I selected $4.20.
I also recall there being a minimum amount in addition to a minimum number of donors in at least 20 states. Maybe that has changed or maybe the amount is low enough it is no challenge. Or maybe the Gravel campaign missed that
I went looking online and ended up at Wikipedia, Bill; no mention of a dollar amount minimum. One way is 65,000 unique donors, at least 200 each from twenty states. I though I recalled a minimum of $200,000, but that's nothing these days--I suppose they dropped it.
First quarter fundraising totals reported so far: Sanders: $18.2 million from 525,000 donors Harris: $12 million from 138,000 donors O’Rourke: $9.4 million from 218,000 donors Buttigieg: $7 million from 158,550 donors Warren: $6 million from 135,000 donors Klobuchar: $5.2 million from “nearly” 100,000 donors Booker: $5.1 million from unstated number of donors Yang: $1.7 million from 80,000 donors
"My apologies for the delay. Thank you for reaching out and providing this update – Senator Sanders has signed on as a cosponsor again to the National Nurse Act."

The 70's might not be the ideal age for the role of president, but I do think Bernie Sanders is the ideal *person* to be President.

Gravel's video is really interesting. I find myself seriously tempted to send him a few bucks just to get him on the debate.

DeleteIf it was originally $200,000, that's just over $3/donor. Not worth mentioning.
