At the Garden Center

I *always* go in February, but never made it there until April!
It was just the thing after spending the afternoon in the dentist's chair.
My mouth was quite numb, but the camera didn't care.

  1. I have started some more Rosell seed. It is an annual that grows about five feet tall, so yhe seedlings are already three to five inches. Last years grew nicely but did not produce much fruit. I think the flowers did not get fertilized.
Have also started some ginger lilies from seed. The most advanced is about a half inch tall. Mature plants have gorgeous white blossoms. All viewable on Hannah Blog. Also, JRH Posies are a sight to behold.

    1. Not being familiar with the name "rosell," I looked it up on Wikipedia. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it is "jamaica," one of my favorite flavors of ice candy! Very popular in parts of Mexico and the Caribbean, also as a summer beverage.

    2. The “fruits” contributed by younger son did make a delicious sauce and the seeds grew nicely into large plants whose leaves we put into chicken soup and scrambled eggs. The hibiscus-like flowers were beautiful and quite abundant but I suspect the weather made them wilt too soon. The seeds from the prior year, having been kept in an open bowl are sprouting nicely. So, they obviouslydo not need to be frozen or scored. It takes about four days for them to sprout.

  2. NBC: Cash dash divides Democrats' top tier from the pack. [Click] “Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Beto O'Rourke and Pete Buttigieg post strong numbers, but the rest of the field is holding back.”

Democrats are increasingly critical of Israel. Not Pete Buttigieg. [Click]

    1. Okay. Bye-bye Mayor Pete.

I should have known he was too good to be true. Oh, well, I'm thrown back onto my top two, my only two, actually, Bernie and Elizabeth.

    2. I didn't foresee this either, Cat, and think I'm on about the same page as you. Have to mull it over a bit more, though.

    3. I have been totally holding off on Mayor Pete until I know what he stands for. Form his own web site, not from someone piecing together things he has said. And the web site still has nothing about policy whatsoever. This Israel ting wouldn't necessarily be a killer if he were down the line on everything else I stand for, but what are the odds? What have the odds ever been? People say he is waging a policy-first campaign, but I can't find it.

  3. If you was wondering: the oranges of cancer is the sound of windfarms. You may thank you preznit for this research.

  4. And lest we forget, the preznit's father [vater?] was born in New York ["Neu York"?] when it was in Germany. And his grandfather, the illegal emigrant (yes, emigrant) was the proprietor of multiple whorehouses in the US.

    1. Wow. So, he comes by something honestly.

    2. Don't be silly, Puddle, trees cause cancer. Remember, Pres. Reagan told us that. And he couldn't have been wrong.

    3. He’s got no sense of number, time, place, order, sequence and perhaps a few more. These are pre-frontal lobe functions, which may be compromised by very slight insults to that part of the brain. If they go unnoticed, it is largely because human interactions based on imitation and mimicry are sufficient for most occasions AND speech, which we assume is directed by the cognitive centers, but is actually located in the limbic (primitive) brain. People can speak without thinking. LOL

  5. I'm going to do something foolish and post before reading the thread.

Today my mother informed me smugly that the three women who have complained about Biden are all Sanders supporters, according to The New York Times. She had to admit with no little chagrin that *apparently* the Sanders campaign itself is not involved, but she quickly went on to say that "they", whoever "they" may be, have not been able to find any more women to come forward.

    1. The lights just blinked, so I figured I'd better post the above tout suite.

I'm **really* fed the hell up with MSNBC (read the DNC) trashing Bernie, his campaign and his supporters. They lie, they misrepresent, they tell halftruths and twist the truth and generally shit all over him and us. And they broadcast it all as if it were the gospel truth, poisoning the minds of their viewers. I tell you, that goddamned channel is as pernicious as Fox News!

    2. I think it wouldn't make sense for the DNC to be behind an attempt to give Biden grief, given their long-time and arguably continuing support for New Democrats. And it wouldn't make sense for Bernie or his campaign to be behind it, given the recently reported problems in management of his 2016 campaign. I think it is just a foible of the man--but it is certainly anachronous. Someone made the point that unlike Biden, Nancy Pelosi (two years his senior) has changed with the times and that is why she remains effective.

    3. Another thought--these sorts of stories simply feed the "Democrats in Disarray" narrative...I suppose I might say DiD "meme," but I am not sure I understand the latter word well enough to use it properly. Indications are that Dems are very much arrayed to defeat Trump.

    4. The consultants’ object seems to be to get as much free publicity as possible. Since pussy grabbing was not ultimately detrimental, kissing the tops of people’s heads would probably not be, either. If citizens continue to take elections into their own hands, then all the self-designated political operatives (parties, consultants, pollsters, managers, publicists) are superfluous. So, they are fighting to keep the revenue flowing and keep as much as possible for themselves. I suspect many voters were impressed by the self-funding Trump promise and then disappointed to learn that was a lie. Parscale, who is keeping a relatively low profile, managed to run through twelve million in donations in one month. People were cheated. It is to the cheater’s advantage that people do not like to admit they were cheated. Remember GWB’s “Fool me once........?

    5. Except they didn't seem to notice and 40% support him no matter what fool thing he does. The voters are apparently 40% fools.

  6. Wow. I was impressed with "all three are women," even before getting to the rest.

  7. Here's the wiki:
"Trees cause pollution" is a gloriously stupid concept foisted upon the public in 1981 by U.S. President Ronald Reagan. The full quote of his statement was, "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do."[1]

    1. For some reason, the instinct-driven rely heavily on what they can see. Actually, almost exclusively, even though we all know “appearances are deceiving.” So, they do not believe in gasses they cannot see and get irate about the leaves dropped by trees. Here on the Georgia coast the live oaks are loved, despite the fact that they actually do drop their leaves in the spring. But, their surroundings have to be manicured. Even unruly vines have to be removed. The Spanish moss is allowed to stay, but it has taken a lot of effort to persuade people it does not kill the trees and makes the lanes look spooky (scary but safe). You would not believe the armies of lead blowes that descend on our neighborhoods on a weekly basis.

    2. Reagan was a Republican. There is a strain of Republicans who speak and you just know that the truth is the exact opposite of what they are saying. Think: Clear Skies Initiative

  8. I was too. Vermont did elect the first female USA Diocesan bishop (I was a delegate at that convention in 1993). But I was also a member of a congregation that refused a woman priest, even though I was at the time in the ordination process from that congregation. One member actually told me, out loud in a meeting: "We don't have a problem with you, we just don't want a woman here." It felt schizophrenic to me and I changed congregations. And it was only then that I was made a postulant for holy orders.

We've come a long way baby. Incidentally, that congregation has since had two women priests. But it took awhile, and it took the Bishop giving them no option.
