    1. Did pro-Israel lobby funding influence Democrats' responses to Ilhan Omar?

Without having to read the article I can confidently answer that question. Yep, you bet your sweet patootie it did.

[Click] There seems to be more behind the paywall, but what is public takes Presidential sleaze and stupidity to an entirely new level. It links to and interprets a new Mother Jones article HERE. [Click] In case the part outside the paywall should disappear, I will send a copy to listener to consider posting. It’s long, but explosive.

  3. I don't know what that yellow building is in the photo, but I sure do love that color!

    1. It sure does look nicer than those gray buildings across the street! If it were in Russia, it would be the color of a czarist government building. I used to dream about an old-fashioned country house painted a light yellow with white trim; I remember it well.

    2. Susan, that is the Hardwick Inn! There is a Cafe & Bakery on the front corner of the building and we plan to go try it out sometime soon. I have just posted photos of it out front. Enjoy!

  4. What goes around, comes around—Howard Schultz edition. [Click] On top of the rather ridiculous idea that he has a chance to start with and the amateurish fake social media accounts promoting him, I’d say his goose is very well done.

  5. This morning was beautiful, but it has clouded over again, and more light rain is predicted tonight. We have had a lot of light rain; snowfall in the mountains is more the 50% above the old average for this time of year, but we have had almost no fog this year. They say the moist air that keeps bringing precipitation is from near Hawaii--the so-called "Pineapple Express," so relatively warm. But the winter fog for which this area used to be (in)famous has become rare in recent years, considerably increasing the need for irrigating crops during the winter. Yes, global warming. The fog requires moist ground, clear skies, and temperatures less than about 44 deg. F.

Biden Concerned About Fundraising Challenge Amid New Sense Of 2020 Urgency [Click] A more extensive version of the link I posted yesterday. This makes reference to his son Hunter’s [Click] “complicated personal history.” Oh, my.

How America’s food giants swallowed the family farms [Click] Reporting from Iowa; it’s far worse than I knew, although I suspected a good bit of it. And the chances that it can be undone seem to be somewhere between nil and nothing.

    1. Oh my... I had forgotten about Hunter's sleazy behavior, but we can be sure the Republicans will bring it up front and center.

  8. There is also at least the appearance of improper behavior by Joe in connection with some of Hunter's doings. And yes, it would all be loudly trumpeted (pun fully intended).

  9. Rubbish headline on front page of New York Times:

Bernie Sanders-Style Politics Are Defining 2020 Race, Unnerving Moderates.

*The leading Democratic candidates have largely broken with consensus-driven politics.

*Moderate Democrats increasingly fear that the party could fritter away its chances of beating President Trump in 2020 by careening over a liberal cliff.

My translation: The New Democrats’ consensus among themselves does not consider the opinions of the electorate, viewing the voters with contempt.

    1. Yes, what the moderates fear is losing their own power, and most of them are completely out of touch with "regular people".

    2. Absolutely right. The whole sorry lot ought to just say what they are, that is Republicans! They lost the 2016 election by forcing HRC down the voters' throats and they're doing their damnedest to lose 2020 by, apparently, forcing Kamala Harris down it. At least, Harris seems to be the candidate everybody is most troubled about being anointed. Damn every last, stupid, smug one of them!

  10. Alan, a Sanders/Abrams ticket would be perfect! Thank you.

  11. Fascinating, if deeply disturbing, article about the plague of Cyprian.

  12. Cat--I don't think Harris is going to make it through Super Tuesday. Too much baggage, evidently doesn't do well in town halls, doesn't seem to know what she is in favor of (aside from being elected President), and doesn't seem to have a clue what the folks in Iowa or NH (for two examples) want to find in a candidate. Her plan is evidently to skate through the earliest states and grab all the South Carolina and California votes--very unlikely IMO.

Thinking of the Plague of Cyprian, it is quite possible that the responsible pathogen no longer exists--or does. I was fascinated to learn that measles is a variant of horse plague (rinderpest) that appeared only about a thousand years ago. I also found it interesting to read that the Plague of Cyprian was associated with a significant climatic disturbance.

Much better thinking about a Sanders/Abrams ticket!
