Got called out for Gramie duty on Friday, so never made it here to play. Thanks for the GREAT links, Alan! I certainly appreciate them! Sometimes just your titles and notations are what keep me informed!
Thanks, listener. In my sloth, I sometimes figure that headlines alone are enough--I don't need to link to everything. And I do try to toss in something non-political from time to time. Here's one:
AAAS: Machine learning 'causing science crisis' [Click] It has long been my observation that people often apply statistical methods they don’t understand to data, and do not apply the final statistical test, what I call the “smell test.” In short, does it conform to the real world? I have seen people publish conclusions from data that do not reproduce a single one of the individual data sets on which they are based, and people already afflicted with cognitive bias proceed to use the faulty conclusions extensively. I have seen people with science PhD’s who do not understand elementary statistics, but that doesn’t stop them from using same.
Omar should not have apologized. It is not a crime or a sin to point out that Israel practices genocide and fascism. Nor is it un-American to deplore this country's lick spittle attitude towards Israel. It's not even antisemitic. It's simply the sickening truth. I'm pleased Omar spoke her mind. Apologizing, though, sets a bad precedent. Now the New Democrat, Republican Lite overlords will think they can cow her or anyone else who questions the status quo. They don't need to be encouraged in that belief.
The article didn't suggest how to defeat the New Democrats soundly enough that they actually get the message they are no longer in power. They clearly don't give a damn what the rank and file party members want. They clearly only see the wave of young progressives as a nuisance to be brushed away like so many flies. How can we hope to defeat Fart if we can't even take back our party?
VT*Grand on the premises. She wanted to watch The Greatest Showman because she will soon be performing two of the songs from the show in a school event and she has never seen the movie. Just our luck that no one has it up to rent just now. We ended up paying $20 to purchase the darn thing. So, of course it's a movie we've seen twice (once at the request of a close friend and once upon begging by two granddaughters). And while we concede it is an excellent production, we really don't enjoy watching it, since it is constant loud sound for 1 hour and 45min! We sure do love VT*Grand!
s there precedent for impeachment proceedings to begin with local efforts? In 1808, the Mississippi territorial legislature passed resolutions calling upon the House to impeach afederal judge in that territory, and instructing its delegate in Congress to offer a resolution of impeachment. The House authorizeda committee to investigate the charges and recommend whether to impeach. Asher C. Hinds, 3 Precedents of the House of Representatives§2487 (1907). In 1903, the Florida state legislature adopted a joint resolution calling upon the House to begin impeachment proceedings against a federal judge in Florida. After receiving that resolution, a Member of the House from Florida introduced the state resolution into the record and introduced articles of impeachment. Again, the House appointed a committee to investigate the charges, and the House did eventually impeach the judge. Hinds, Precedents§2469.

ReplyDeleteState legislatures can initiate impeachment proceedings, but they must still be introduced by a Member of the House. [Click] I never heard of that, but the article says there is precedent. I shall have to see if I can find one or more precedents.
