It rained a bit in the early morning, but now the weather is BEAUTIFUL! Breezy, clear blue sky with white clouds in the distance (all around as far as I can tell). It looks like we are in the eye of a large storm, and more rain is predicted this afternoon.
We went out for lunch and shopping, and when we came back the big wheeled trash cans on our street had been emptied and then blown over! Our mailbox (which is welded to a tractor disc for a base) had also blown over! Must have been quite a little windstorm. It rained while we were shopping, but nothing much.
Definitely a windy day over your way, Alan. 38-40mph wind gusts recorded at San Francisco International Airport. Would you have had higher gusts up your way?
I don’t know how strong the gusts were here, but the newspaper reports that occasional trees fell all over town.[Click] The ground is wet, so that makes matters worse.
From the comments: “It's gonna be hard to find any court that will be OK with this abuse of power. If they allow the President to bybass Congress, the next time, he could try to bypass the Courts. I don't think they want to open the door to that.”
From behind a paywall: “Trump may think he can claim victory on a border wall by declaring a national emergency but Pelosi isn’t finished with him yet.” It would go the House, then the Senate—which would be required to vote.
Sorry for hogging it. In other news, my consulting business seems to be picking up a bit, which is welcome.
And a troubleshooting hint if anyone else here has a DSL line for internet instead of cable. Our internet speed dropped way down (you can check yours at fast.com). The phone company guys came out and traced it to a bad phone isolator on the same line. DSL lines handle both internet/data and telephone, but an isolator (a bandpass filter, to be technical) needs to be be hooked up to each non-computer (landline phone, fax, etc). The one in our bedroom had gone bad after twenty-odd years. The way to figure it out is to unplug phone isolators from the phone plugs until the internet speed comes back up; the last one you disconnected was the bad one. Of course if you unplug them all and the problem still isn't solved, it was something else!
Actually, the phone guys came out twice--first one figured it was most likely the modem, so I replaced that and it didn't fix things, so then then came out and traced it to the bad phone isolator. So now I have a spare modem should the new one croak some day. Some online shopping brought me a new one in an opened box for $26 delivered, which isn't bad at all.
Lovely, indeed! Happy V day
