Yes, puddle, that IS encouraging. I think conversion to carbon-neutral liquid motor fuels could happen quickly now; styrofoam can be replaced with mycelium, as well as other plastics and wasteful materials; and I saw an article about a woman making lightweight concrete blocks [Click] from rubbish in Gaza that use very little fuel.

listener--that was some SERIOUSLY! bad weather you avoided by staying home! Good for you!

listener--here's a story about Phil Scott in the BBC News:
US mid-term elections: The Republican who changed his mind over guns [Click]

And then there is this: Mid-terms 2018: When an attack ad is a vote decider [Click] I had heard of the Demon Sheep ad, but hadn't seen it before; what a load of [ahem] nonsense! But the Bigfoot ad is good for a bit of a laugh.

I had heard about Trump doing something with a Game of Thrones meme, whatever that is, so finally read this [unenlightening] article about it:
HBO unimpressed by Trump's Game of Thrones meme [Click] It occurs to me that I do not know how to pronounce the word--whether it is "meem" or "me-me." Don't bother telling me. Or what it means. But the "Mueller is Coming" and "Indictments are Coming" posters are attractive.

  3. Very Few Quality Polls

November 4, 2018 at 9:41 am EST By Taegan Goddard

For those looking at the latest midterm election polls, there are almost no good quality polls of the most competitive races in these final days.

It wouldn’t work everywhere, but certainly sounds like a promising idea.

    1. Alan, I can't open the link about Operation Enduring Boredom. Where is it from?

    2. Dismembered for ease of disposal, as with dissolving in acid. That's exactly what I said on the last thread. That's not necessarily what happened, but it is clearly being seriously considered.

      His poor family!

    3. Indeed. And the Saudis are supposed to be guardians of Mecca, Medina and religious rectitude. And Moslem custom requires prompt burial, which is denied to this man.

    4. Re the Chicagoland story: It focuses on volunteers mobilized by independent organizations, but the Democratic Party of Oak Park likewise has weekly phone banks for Casten and Underwood. It's not just the city and not just these new organizations.

    5. I figured as much, Bill. I must say that the idea of knocking on doors and suchlike seems very alien to me in a political context, but in other places it certainly does seem to be the way things are done.

    1. Thanks, that one worked and I shared it on Facebook. It's so embarrassing to have such a hate-filled dork pretending to be a president!

  9. Hallo all!

Wil and I started watching The Crown tonight. Wow! SO well done! We've never seen it before, and are probably going to watch a third episode before we sleep. Nice to have a worthwhile diversion in these final days of waiting...!

Yes, Alan, we definitely did the right thing staying home! The mountains are all white today.

ANYTHING that gets us to a better situation with Climate Change is to be encouraged!

As for Phil Scott...he's not a bad person. He is a moderate Republican and he did something truly stunning and laudatory with the gun legislation he signed. I give him IMMENSE credit for that. However, he also gutted the education budget and isn't moving on healthcare. So he isn't the person we need, really, either. He's no Howard Dean.

Unfortunately, his Democrat challenger has not articulated how she would DO the things she is championing. So I don't feel sure of her abilities. Wil worked with her prior to her trans choice, and I think he will vote for her. I probably will too, just because neither of us has the stomach to vote for a single Republican. But I will say I do not dislike Phil Scott; just some of his ideals.

    1. "But I will say I do not dislike Phil Scott; just some of his ideals." [I assume that should be "ideas."] That's fair enough, certainly. I sent it along because it was nice to see Vermont get some recognition, as well as to see a decent, thoughtful politician with the courage of his convictions. But boy, if the story is to be believed, you sure do seem to have some triple-A gun nuts back there!

  10. Democrats Aren’t Moving Left. They’re Returning to Their Roots. [Click] This article has a nice quotation from FDR that makes it clear he was proposing his “socialist” social policies for exactly the same reason that Otto von Bismarck did—to undercut the redistributive and anti-capitalist policies of left-wingers.
