  1. [up to] 350,000 at Chicago rally on Saturday? [Click] That would be a nice round number…
"The rally will start at Grant Park in the heart of downtown and organizers say they intend to honor first-time voters. After the rally, organizers plan to march 2018 first-time voters several blocks to a nearby early voting site where the newly-registered voters can cast their ballots."

    1. YES!!! Very good news! We need change so very badly. I don't think we can stand for this election to be a failure like the last one...!!!

P.S.: It seems to be dawning on some people that it might have been helpful for Trump to have nominated ambassadors to Turkey and Saudi Arabia... Maybe someday it will dawn on them that firing almost all the area experts at the State Department also might not have been a terribly bright idea. Oh, well, Javanka can handle it.

    1. If it dawned on them at all, their storm clouds quickly obscured their vision.

    2. It occurs to me that if the Apple Watch records physiological information such as heartbeat or blood pressure, Mr. Kashoggi's time of death would be documented. Presumably the recordings were backed up to cloud storage, and that's how Turkish officials obtained it--either from the cloud storage, or on its way there.

    3. Yes indeed, the Apple Watch has always had a heartbeat sensor. Guess the presumed Saudi assassins were not au courant with modern technology.

  4. Re a discussion on the last thread: It was not lack of foresight on the Iraq war, it was plain stupidity. Senator Kerry voted for the war, totally stunning many here in Massachusetts. The vote came after the ballot closed (yes, it was an election year, which one might have thought might have given some of these idiots pause.) but a woman here in western Mass. almost at once started a write in campaign. Lord forgive me, I can't remember her name; but, I voted for her. That was the beginning of my mistrust of Kerry. His behavior in the '04 election cycle was just frosting on the cake as far as I was concerned. If Howard hadn't said to vote for the SOB I never would have. To this day I regret not writing in Howard's name.

  5. I had almost talked myself into voting for Kerry, despite the way he treated Howard and his supporters--until Kerry announced his running mate: John Edwards. Boy, did I have Edwards pegged, as it turned out--a real fraud. Even though it didn't count because they weren't certified write-in candidates, I wrote in Howard for Pres. and Carol Mosley Braun for VP. Then the following St. Patrick's day I re-registered as a Green. In 2016 I temporarily re-registered as a Democrat to make sure there was no problem voting for Howard in the primary election. The most recent (I don't want to say last) Democratic presidential nominee for whom I truly wanted to vote was Walter Mondale (Bernie stumped for him, BTW); the most recent for whom I voted was Al Gore. I hope to be able to vote for a Democratic nominee whom I really like at least once more before I die.

    1. My first election, I voted for Mondale. And, yes, Alan, he was the last Democratic nominee I really wanted to vote for. Sad commentary, isn't it?

Like you, I have taken to saying 'the latest election' rather than "the last.' As Theodan says to Merry, "Speak not words of omen."

  6. I am not old enough to have been able to vote for Norman Thomas, but I looked him up on Wikipedia and I see that I shall have to listen to him on YouTube.

  7. I never voted for Thomas, but I did vote for Henry Wallace in the 2nd grade (1948) election, lol! Only vote he got from my class.

  8. Pat Cipollone to replace Don McGahn as White House Counsel [Click] As I understand it, McGahn kept the tradition that the White House Counsel’s role was to defend the Office of the President, rather than the particular occupant of the office, and DT wanted it to be the other way around. Cipollone is said to be a true Trump believer, to want the job, and to be aggressive when needed in civil cases, but lacks appropriate experience for the office.

    1. Here's the video from the Chicago Sun Times [Click] "Organizers of Chicago's third Women's March urged first-time voters to hit the polls for the midterm elections Nov. 6. Hundreds of thousands of activists hit the streets for the city's first two marches in protest of the Trump White House." Hundreds of thousands! I like it!
