I no longer think destabilizing the judicial system is Trumps primary aim with his immigration policy, though no doubt that would be an incidental benefit if he could carry it through according to the initial plan. Having read a bit more, it now seems to me that his plan is both simpler and more evil. The policy is meant to provide product. Criminalizing immigration results in far more prisoners to be held, albeit temporarily. Trump's buddies in the private prison system provide the needed added capacity. Meanwhile, parents in the criminal justice system conveniently have their children removed, children who can be fed into the adoption system, or should I say industry. It never occurs to Trump that he is destroying countless lives, to say nothing of America's integrity, moral standing, etc. Or rather, it doesn't occur to him that it matters. This policy makes sure that his donors keep donating, to HIM and his voters keep voting, for HIM. And that's all that matters...HIM.
You know that fundraiser for the children? I was finally able to contribute and saw the current total: $19,093,265 raised of $20,000,000. According to the FB page, it was established on the Sixteenth. Today's the Twenty-second. $19,093,265 isn't bad for one week. *grin* Kind'a gives you hope, doesn't it?
Of course, the order changing the policy did NOT open the door to reuniting the families. Rather, it means the US Gov't can now incarcerate the children and parents indefinitely. But the push from Vermont's Legislature to say that the families should now be reunited is something.

ReplyDeleteSaw a quote on FB that says it all for me. "America's heart and soul are being destroyed by a man who has neither."

Heard of several of these. I was a little leery of Together Rising. Kimmy thinks they're okay?
