Birdbath

  1. Even though I have been telling our kitties, Mizzen & Spinnaker (age 6), that they are too young to know all that could happen, they do still get themselves into scrapes. Since I was home today, I spent the morning oil painting upstairs. Then I took a shower and was getting ready to come downstairs when Spinnaker came bounding up the stairs soaking wet! I figured she'd been on the back porch when the first thunderstorm hit, but decided to double check how this could have happened.
Aha. I found that she had apparently pushed her way out through the screen, then back in again (for the first time EVER!), upon motivation from the growling sky and driving rain. That begged the question, "Where is Mizzen?" She always follows Spinnaker out. So I called "Mizzen!" and there came the most pitiful yowl from nearby.
That silly kitty had climbed the porch screen to the top and was sitting atop the beams, by the upper triangle window, on the outside of the screen! Fortunately, Bill has recently been working on the house siding and the ladder was right there. So it happened that during the worst deluge of the storm, I climbed the ladder barefoot, reached out at arm's length and grabbed Mizzen by the scruff. She did not fight me at all. I tucked her under my arm, climbed down the ladder, and brought her in. She was so grateful! When Spinnaker came over to check on her, she HISSED at her vehemently, as if to say, "This is all your fault!" Ha! The good news is that Mizzen's stress (she was panting) did not bring on any asthma symptoms! She seems fully healed from her difficult beginnings as a kitten.

So, it's been a thunderstormy and adventurous day. I opted to NOT go to a meeting in NH today, due to the heat and thunderstorms predicted. It was a good choice. I89 Southbound was closed for two hours this morning, due to a dump truck rolling over and catching fire. The driver was entrapped at first, but able to get out before the explosion. This afternoon, when I would have been driving home, trees came down on I89 Northbound, and strong thunderstorms have been rolling through since midday.

Everybody (human or beast) take care! ❤️🐱

    1. Gee, that sounds like way too much weather! Sounds like a good idea to stay home, or nearby.

P.S.: That "birdbath" in the lead photo looks more like a baptismal font to me...

    2. I said exactly the same thing, Alan! It resides at the Summer home of the Webb Family. Only, I have seen the actual baptismal font at the gorgeous church that the Webb Family had built, and that makes this look like a birdbath. Ha!

Stan Greenberg: “Mr. Trump’s base strategy brands the Republican Party as sexist, racist, xenophobic and anti-immigrant, which magnifies the anti-Trump reaction among Democrats. But it also leaves a tenth who are conservative Catholics and a fifth who are nonreligious conservatives more tentative in their support of the Republican Party — and it pushes away the quarter of Republicans who remain ideologically moderate.”

“The harder the president bangs these drums, the more Democrats become enraged and a segment of Republicans gets demoralized. The more he trashes and defeats his Republican opponents in primaries, the more these voters may contemplate different political options.”

    Well, OK.
