Alan, I couldn't put my finger on what was amiss with that discussion (linked to last thread), but you nailed it.
Also the other day I saw a disquieting post on the DSA FB page,saying in no uncertain terms that members of the middle class cannot ipso facto be socialists. It nonplussed me, I can tell you. Strikes me as an unproductive view at a time when socialist idears need to be more widely disseminated.
Thanks, Cat. Re the FB post, even when a group has socially significant numbers, it is unwise to reject potential allies. (One could nowadays ask Republicans about that...) Would this person rail against German's old age pensions and universal health care because Otto von Bismarck was not a Marxist?
