  1. Today I heard a White-Throated Sparrow. I am eager for them each year, as theirs is my favourite bird call. They sojourn in my yard a little while before heading up the mountain. Ah, Spring!

  2. Bill, I went back and looked. I think the reason I get more messages from Our Revolution is that I've gotten some Vermont-specific messages from them.

    1. Thanks, listener. I should probably go to their website and see what's there rather than relying solely on email.

  3. From a couple threads back:

There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos

Always loved this quote, pithy and apposite as it is, though I've heard it attributed to the late great Molly Ivens. She may have pinched it from Hightower, I suppose.

  4. I get e-mail and the occasional phone call and text message from Our Revolution, though I can't do anything about any of it.

Also still on Tim Kanova's mailing list. Today got a pretty strong e-mail from him . He certainly seems to be my kind of Democrat.

    1. Here's the text of the e-mail; it's printed on his organization's web site too:

I praise Sanders for denouncing fracking, even if both he and Tom Perez failed to mention how the Democratic Party takes so much money from the fossil fuel industry and has done so much for fracking and pipelines all across the country and around the world.

Unfortunately, no one who spoke at this rally even uttered the words "Sabal Trail Pipeline" which if completed will pump a billion cubic feet of fracked gas a day each and everyday through sinkhole country for export as Liquified Natural Gas. Even the EPA has concluded that fracking gas fouls water.

No one mentioned the role of "Florida Power & Light" in this pipeline project and how FP&L is also blocking solar energy development in Tallahassee, pushing for power lines through the Everglades, and pumping radioactive water waste underneath the aquifer in South Florida. What could possibly go wrong.

No one called out "Big Sugar" for choking Lake Okeechobee and the Biscayne Aquifer, itself becoming salinated from the salt water intrusion resulting from rising sea levels, from the global warming being fueled by fossil fuels, like the Sabal Trail Pipeline fracking project.

Sanders spoke about how authoritarians like Trump get people to scapegoat the poor and racial and religious minorities. The Republicans name their scapegoats, the Democratic Party won't even call out actual corporate predators by name, let alone renounce their financial contributions. In that silence, the Republicans get to do their scapegoating.

The Florida Democratic Party, like the Democratic National Committee, calls for unity while too often protecting the same corporate interests that flood them with money and threaten our future. The election fiascos of 2016, 2014, and 2010 suggests that enabling corporate predators, from Wall Street banks to Big Oil, has not been a particularly successful strategy for the Democratic Party.

This has become all too routine for the Democratic Party for twenty years now, it silences the voices of resistance, from Occupy to Standing Rock to Sabal Trail, it gives corporate predators a pass, and somehow thinks that's good.

If the Sanders-Perez duo takes this road show all the way to North Dakota, it's my hope and the hope of a great many others that someone on that stage will utter the words "Standing Rock."
And if they make another stop in the Sunshine State, may someone speak the words "Sabal Trail" and honor and help those standing for the people and resisting these huge corporate interests.

    2. I've said it before and I'll say it again, and again and again...

Lefties are like Irishmen. Every Irishman is a king. Every Liberal and Progressive, etc. has his own little pee pot organization and his own followers. It doesn't matter how eloquent each of them is. It doesn't matter how clear his vision or how accurate and passionate his message. He's still one guy talking to his supporters. And the Left keeps getting more fragmented and more fragmented.

I see on Bernie's FB page people are pissed at him now for being on this tour. They're never gonna trust him again; they're never gonna listen to him again. It's just like the people who were pissed at him for trying to work towards Clinton's election. He betrayed us, he sold out... So they walk away. And where do they go? Some smaller, more insular band of true believers, who will be disillusioned by the next leader who betrays their ideals by compromising and working for the good instead of insisting on the perfect. So nothing ever gets done and the Republicans, marching in lockstep, grow stronger and stronger, more and more extreme and unrecognizable as anything American or decent or logical or even sane.

We MUST work together!!! When the bloody hell are we going to learn that?
