Sunlight on Winterberry

  1. Head's Up:

This morning I got a pop-up on my iPhone’s Safari browser, which congratulated me and said I was selected to test the iPhone7 and to click OK to receive a free iPhone6. There was no “No Thanks” button to click, which is a sure sign of a scam. So I called the Apple Store and they told me it is, as suspected, a scam, and told me how to get it off my phone. (You can’t use your browser until you get rid of it.) Here's how:

    Go to Settings.
Scroll down and select your browser name, in my case Safari.
Scroll down and select Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.

That should clear it out. If that doesn’t work, do the procedure again and it should work. If nothing works, take it to an Apple store and they’ll help.

For me, the second time clearing everything worked.

    2. Had a friend lose a computer to the bit-coin ransom scam. (He wouldn't pay to get the lock lifted.)

  2. I've had Intego anti-malware software (firewall and anti-virus) on my Macs for a long time, and never had a bit of trouble. That's in addition to the Earthlink anti-malware protections. It occurred to me to see if they had a version for iPhones, but it seems not.

    1. Yeah, Alan, I've never had a problem with my Macs either, and this was the first time with the iPhone (and it's 4 years old). The folks at the Apple store knew just what to do, though, so I'm not the first.
