Joe Trippi comparing Sanders and Dean campaigns. [Click] I can’t say as I agree with everything he says, but he is well worth listening to. He also understates (and possibly overstates) or doesn’t mention some things I should consider significant.
Note that the WaPo reporters are at least two weeks behind—they misstate Bernie’s NH state director. (cf. my "two campaigns" link on yesterday's thread.) Lazy journalists who don’t feel the need to get the story right, perhaps? As Joe Trippi says, the longer the campaign flies underneath the corporate radar, the better.
One thing I noticed Trippi didn't mention -- because it would have pointed the finger straight at him -- was the key mistake Howard's campaign made: going negative against Gephardt. IMHO, that's what cost him Iowa. But it's a mistake we know Bernie won't make.
Sorry, but I have not forgiven Trippi for advising Dean so badly about spending. And I still think he stole my big Dean button that only volunteers got. I was at HQ the day he walked out, and the button was on my jacket in the common closet when I hung it up, and gone when I went back to it not two hours later…after Trippi left. Ha! I was working on Meet Up Packets and the looks on the faces of staffers is something I will never forget. I knew something had happened, just didn't know what yet.
Wanted to alert everybody I won't be around for a while. Tomorrow I and about 32 other SF fans take the Empire Builder to Spokane for this year's Worldcon. Limited internet access on the train and limited time once I get to Spokane. Probably both true during the day's stopover in Glacier National Park. I'll be back on the 25th, but it'll take me a couple of days to catch up.
Dean!
ReplyDeleteAnd Bernie!
Tune in to Vermont Public Radio at noon or 7pm today as they are discussing Bernie's campaign!

DeleteYes, Bernie won't do that. Joe wasn't perfect, but who among us is? And Howard's campaign was breaking trail for those who would follow.

True.

DeleteApparently I am not the only one who has noted that in some ways Tramp and Bernie are appealing to the same populist anti-establishment reaction. I saw this article in today's Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/la-na-trump-sanders-20150814-story.html.
ReplyDeleteNPR mentioned it today, too!
