Horsepower

  1. Howard Dean ain't no slowcoach... and neither is Bernie Sanders. A crowd of 15,000 in Seattle Saturday, and TWENTY-EIGHT THOUSAND in Portland on Sunday. What's going to happen in Los Angeles? They are scheduled for the Memorial Sports Arena, which seats "only" 16,000; but it is right next to the Memorial Coliseum, which seats 93,000...

A quick check of the results of the 2012 Democratic primary results in New Hampshire shows that Mr. Obama received about 49,000 votes.

I found the recent campaign finance reports rather interesting; one thing that stuck in my mind is that HRC is spending far more money than anyone else, but for what is not evident. Is she once again overpaying high-ranking staff members and consultants who are ineffective to boot? This campaign just might not be a coronation pageant for either the GOP or the Dems.

BTW, meeting with nurses in Oakland is NOT the standard sort of event for Democratic presidential contenders visiting California.

  3. My attention span isn't what it once was. First I got distracted from Sir Walter Scott's The Talisman by Lorna Doone and now I've been distracted from Lorna Doone by The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, first published in 1911. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it, a nice tale of Gothic Horror. If I understand correctly, in the Andrew Lloid Webber version the phantom is a misunderstood good guy. In the book he is a monster pure and simple...so far at least.

This is my second week of PT. Last week went well. The Fun Trivia Global Challenge also started last week. So far I have been a solid if undistinguished player, which suits me fine. Slow and steady wins the race or, in this case, the Immortal badge.

    1. In the ALW version the Phantom is a genius who has gone mad. He was a badly abused child, but has incredible gifts. However, his appearance frustrates him horribly. He is manipulative and cruel. But his armor does have a chink. It's worth seeing the movie. Bravissima!

    2. Just to add that Phantom of the Opera, really does need to be heard, and as a musical. Fabulous!

  4. Another overflow crowd for Bernie at the LA Memorial Arena--but it only seats sixteen thousand. No estimate yet announced of total turnout.

  8. Excerpts:

    "He's real. He's authentic. That's why we're supporting him."
RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of National Nurses United, after the organization endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday.

Tonight's rally is in contrast to a low-key meeting Clinton had in L.A. last week with eight women to discuss home healthcare.

FWIW - have seen Obama in Denver's City Park 2wks before Elex Day in '12 & crowd was deep. This Bernie rally has similar feel in Aug. '15. --Kurtis Lee

Clinton campaign formally advises that she'll be at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday. So will Bernie Sanders.
