Just saw in the Village newsletter that Oak Park has been named a municipal arboretum. The fourth in the country and apparently the only one to cover an entire municipality rather than a specific park area. The designation is based on the number and diversity of trees, on maintenance and identification programs, and on educating the public.
And I see that the area's Metropolitan Water Reclamation District will be energy-neutral in 9 years. Maybe Illinois can survive 4 years of Raumer after all.
