ZOUNDS! We have a couple of young doves in our front yard, being watched by their parents.
listener4/10/2015 09:01:00 PM For Eastern Christians Christ did not merely lay in the grave for three days, nay, he descended to the dead and freed the people from hell! It is said he used the cross for a sword. All in all, not bad for just a few days' work. ================ That's interesting; I may have heard it before, but if so I didn't remember it. It rather reminds one of Earth Store Bodhisattva, who teaches [guides] even the denizens of the various hells, so they can find their ways to enlightenment. Only the devas (residents of "heaven"--deva is obviously a cognate of the Latin deus) cannot be enlightened from their world (state of being) because there is no suffering, nothing unpleasant there. Luckily for them, it's not permanent. Going back and forth to work this weekend I saw a lot of tomatoes planted, also grain near harvest. Cotton and (silage) corn seem notable by their absence--probably they use too much water. (Believe it or not, tomatoes use little water relative to many other crops.) Very few onions, no lettuce. One field of canola. Alfalfa has been cut for the first time in some places. The pistachios have not finished leafing out.
[shaking head] This "storming" took place 30 or more years ago. Of course, most of the female writers of the '80s were writing science fiction rather than fantasy. Harry Potter had nothing to do with it. But while they're saying that young readers are looking for something similar to Potter they cite Leckie, whose work isn't remotely similar. The whole thing doesn't make sense.
I don't know enough to say, so thanks for the input, Bill. I was moved to investigate the Hugo award winners to see if there were authors I hadn't read who seemed interesting. No luck. Poor taste on my part, I suppose.

And now off to the Land of Nod.

ReplyDeleteWe still have a little snow and ice left in the deepest shadows.
Hmmm...the combination of the two comments reminds me that Vermont is one of the best states for carrying heat...
