I've had an odd stretch of ordering mishaps, and keep thinking of you, puddle, and your long wait for shipped goods. It seems like just about everything I've ordered in the last month had to be sent back, from clothing (too baggy for the size), to blank cards and envelopes (I've ordered a dozen times before but this time ordered all in the wrong size!*), to a camera, and even an apron I bought locally for painting isn't working out (the upper strap circles behind the neck and latches, but it bugs the back of my neck). But here's one good thing. The zoom on my old camera (Sony Cybershot H20) has seen better days, so I ordered a newer version of the same camera, the H90. It arrived today and I immediately got it fired up and took comparison photos with the old and the new. To my surprise the old won hands down! So I am sending back the H90 and ordered a new H20. :-) AND! Since I found a "new, but box was opened" H20 on Ebay I ordered that! It's so great because it's $489 from the camera store, but just $150 on Ebay (trusted seller). Then I ordered a second one from another trusted Ebay seller for just $130 new, to give Youngest and his wife before the new baby comes, as their previous camera has gone missing. I'm excited about this! Here is the link to a few comparison photos showing the difference between the two cameras:
And now I must get to sleep so I can paint some more tomorrow! Yeah!! :-D
* What messed me up in ordering was a combination of it being a whole year since I'd last ordered, and the fact that while the cards are size A2 from the store, my computer calls them size A5. Weird.
Here's hoping your ordering gremlins have vamoosed, listener! In answer to your question a couple of threads back, I did find information about a pair of temporal hours mechanical watches handmade by a Japanese master watchmaker, one with the old Japanese style (six hours from sunup to sundown) and Western (roman numerals, 12 hrs). Also smartphone apps, but evidently only in Japanese style. The mechanical ones had hands that moved in the conventional fashion, but the numbers/characters around the edge moved with the seasons!
Alan, I have to ask: What happens when the clock gets turned back or forward an hour? Does it mess up the Seasons aspect? Also, I can't quite make out how a 6 hour clock would work.
There has to be some way to set it initially. To tell it, "The sun just rose; it's 0 o.clock." And, "The sun just set; it's 12 o'clock (or 6 o'clock, as the case me be)." I assume if you moved from Vermont to Oregon you could repeat that to reset it to the times of Oregon sunrise and sunset and therefore the duration of the Oregon day and night. (I'm sure you weren't talking about Daylight Saving. God's time doesn't know from Daylight Saving.)
Apparently the Ordering Gremlin (Gremlin of Disorder?) is still hanging around here. I will have to call the paper shop tomorrow and ask some questions. It appears that the same high quality folded cards I have used for over a decade are available in EVERY size they are made in EXCEPT the one size I need. The only place I can find them online is asking more than double the usual cost. =Sigh= So I will either have to go with a different size card (which would necessitate resizing all my files of the card designs I print!!) or try a different manufacturer's card of the correct size. What are the chances, what with my ordering luck these days, that the different manufacturer's cards will be good?
