Bright sunshine on last night's inch of snow. Predicted high is 30F, which would be the coldest for this date since 1934. But it hasn't yet hit 26F, which was the coldest ever (1904).
A couple of weeks ago DFA was crowing that this was the first time a Chicago mayor had been forced into a runoff. What they didn't mention was that this was just the fifth mayoral election since the nonpartisan-runoff election system was put into place.
The way they have dealt with the Chicago election in their emails does not provide confidence that they understand the politics in Ferguson that they are not getting involved in any better. I find myself wondering if the involvement of any national organization in local politics is a good idea. Certainly I wouldn't expect national DFA to understand how things are done in Oak Park.
Depending on how you take that phrase. But local bosses have far less influence today than they did 50 or 60 years ago when I first heard that said. And the dynamics of municipal elections are totally different from those of national elections. Indeed, as I've been saying, the dynamics of Oak Park elections are totally different from those of Chicago elections.
And the further elaborate: The dynamics of Oak Park municipal elections are totally different from those of state Senate of Assembly districts that include parts of Oak Park. For one thing, the designations "Democrat" and "Republican" (or "Green" with a capital "G") are totally meaningless. Use of any of these three terms would be the kiss of death.
I'd never noticed that Charles Chamberlain was one of those souls much able to hear what he didn't wish to. And since he was born blessed with knowing everything. . . .
He decided the blog was all wrong, and he knew how to do it. And pretty much destroyed it, then left for facebook.
I didn't know who you meant until I looked him up on Wikipedia. Bummer that he ditched the Blog. That was the dumbest thing anyone could do. They should have kept Allison on moderating and given her more powers.
Howard is first, as always.
ReplyDeleteCouple of notes from Chicagoland:

All politics is local?

DeleteAbsolutely agree!!
DeleteIt was downright hot here today--supposed to be ninety degrees, and it felt like it. Low eighties predicted through the coming week.
