Longish day at work today (Friday). I thought it was supposed to be all hands on deck, but three people absented themselves. I could have been a lot busier than it was. Well, next week should be challenging--we will see. And soon to bed (with no alarm clock set).
Lovely photo, Listener. Tangentially regarding a recent discussion we had: Your children were very lucky. I envy them. My parents (particularly my mother) had a rather different approach to child rearing and maintains a rather different approach to family relations. I hope your kids realize how special their parents are.
Ah, Cat, there's the rub. I'm pretty sure half the time they find us rather annoying. But that's more than made up for by how much the Grands adore us! Ha! As Mah*Sweetie likes to say, "If we knew how fabulous grandchildren were, we would have had them first!"
Just remember, listener, you're never too old to embarrass your children! By boss was visiting her mom in New Mexico, and they went to the grocery store. When they got to the checkout stand there weren't any cashiers there. The old lady (in her late 80's) turned to her 60-something daughter, winked and whispered "watch this!" Then she pulled out her cane and started beating the counter with it, shouting WHAT'S THE MATTER HERE? WHAT 'S A PERSON HAVE TO DO TO GET SOME SERVICE? AREN'T THERE ANY CLERKS IN THIS STORE? and so forth. Clerks came boiling out of the aisles like ants from a broken nest, while my boss was trying to shrink out of sight behind a display of canned soup... Live long enough and you can be TOTALLY outrageous! If that's what you choose, of course. Maybe once in a while to keep the kids on their toes?

P.S.: On the recommendation of friends of similar age, I raised the head of our bed by four inches today to decrease problems with acid reflux while sleeping. We will see if that helps; if so, it is very inexpensive medicine.
Oh, yeah, Alan, we embarrass them on a regular basis. LOL! We also surprise them on a regular basis. :-) They were surprised when I showed up in my first Mini Cooper, for example. Just wait until they discover I have a black leather jacket. ;-)
I told my client a couple of days ago that, once our current work schedule is complete in June, we have to find some way for me to cut back from my current almost full-time schedule. He assured me that the long-discussed plans to get somebody else on board will be moving forward in a couple of months.
Listener, a Mini Cooper is, I should think, immensely less embarrassing from one's children's POV than a mini skirt. *grin* And that leather jacket wouldn't happen to have an eagle on the back, would it, a la "The Terror of Highway 101?"
Well, Bill, I will be retired* from the Library, yet still meeting with people who are seeking spiritual guidance. In fact, I am planning to offer to Skype with the ones who usually have a distance to travel.
*If anyone missed it, this references my post BELOW...
Well, folks, today I told the director at work that I will be retiring at the end of the month. She sweetly said, "Oh no!" then we talked particulars. Three minute conversation, and it went very well. This time next month, I will be a free person. Laaaaaa!
It's been snowing here since about 3:45pm. We have more than an inch of snow so far, and the wind has been whipping enough that both our covered front porch and our covered, screened back porch have snow clear up to the doors!
Well the weather forecast yesterday for the coming week was dismal. Starting with ice this morning. If there was, I didn't see it. When I let Beau out at noon, it had been raining for hours. By the time I got the computer set up the ice/snow predictions were all disappeared, lol!
Not even gonna freeze tonight, so must remember to turn my heater down.
Retirement IS quite a concept. I don't have any male role models in my family who have done it, so it is completely unploughed ground for me, and it looks like I might have to deal with it. Well, a step at a time; I have to lay plans for how to deal with having every holiday, night and weekend off (one year and ten months to go). Maybe T'ai Chi Ch'uan would be a good idea; there are classes every Saturday morning. Maybe I will study up on it a bit. Violent exercise is out, range of motion, balance, coordination and muscle tone are in. Of course there are things around the house that need doing. Once we have the mortgage paid off, I can think about [mostly] retiring, but I will keep up my consulting practice as long as I can travel safely. [COME ON, CALIFORNIA BULLET TRAIN! Ground breaking on Tuesday...] My consulting work keeps my mind working, and serves a good social purpose. Since it is incidental income I can charge prices public defenders can afford and feel adequately compensated.
And now, decisions, decisions, decisions; watch Dave [the movie] or listen to a Janis Joplin CD? Maybe some JJ, then Dave. Yeah, that's good. No need to set the alarm clock.
That's the spirit, Alan! We plan to continue our home business and I'll be offering spiritual guidance. I will also be picking up my oil paint brushes again, and possibly writing some poetry or creating some children's books.
After listening to some JJ I decided to listen to some Alabama Shakes again; not bad at all, especially considering they are a new group, only getting started as a garage band a few years ago. I think I am likely to buy their new CD coming out this year. If you haven't heard them, do check them out--lots on YouTube. --Alan
We need DEAN on the hill!

DeleteYou'll actually be retired?! What a concept!!

We'll see.
Above should have been a reply to listener.

DeleteNo, Cat, no eagle. And no Hell's Angels motif either. ;-)

It's snowing...and sticking. Some two to four inches accumulation forecast.
ReplyDeletePuddle, I feel your pain! Blogger hasn't eaten one of my comments in a while -- knock on wood! But I know how rotten it is when it does.

For all the fancy schmancy Doppler radar and weather satellites and such, weather forecasting still seems to be more of an art than a science.

We love both!
DeleteThat's a classic movie at our house. An nobody ever belted out a song like Janis Joplin, except maybe Billie Holiday.
