A beautiful, sunny day here, with a little more frost in the morning than the previous couple of days. One can feel the snow on the mountains, although it is only about half the historical average for this time of year. No precipitation in the coming week's forecast. A nice lazy day, with lots of Japanese New Year's food. (No working permitted on New Year's Day--have to get things off on the right foot!) Thinking of feet, I need to write a review for the new Chelsea boots Santa brought me. The soles truly are non-slip (or did I mention that before?).
One of my two pairs of flannel pajamas is undeniably worn out; knowing what a hassle it is to run around from store to store in town (and those all big chain stores) with little chance of finding them, I of course went to Amazon. Quite a bit of choice, and reviews (something else department stores don't offer) as well. Should be delivered to my doorstep in a week. Easy-peasy.
Politics in Europe--the UK and the Eurozone--look to be quite the spectator sport this year. The folks who have been in the drivers' seats don't like the look of things and seem likely to wage a(nother) fear campaign to keep their illusion of power, despite having generally lost credibility with the (at least potential) electorate. What's it going to be? Vote for the lesser weevil? Vote for a lizard so the wrong lizard doesn't get in? Knock things out of kilter a bit to get past gridlock? (Hmmm...that reminds me of John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry, although I don't think things in Europe are bad enough for anything THAT strong.) Makes me want to make a VERY BIG bowl of popcorn and get glued to the telly. 2016 is our turn.

It turned out to be not a broken axle but a displaced left front axle! The write-up says "defective part."
