Grandson is doing fine. He went home this morning (walked down the hospital hall on his own) and spent the day playing with his toys, and even sang E-I-E-I-O. :-)
It's amazing how fast little ones heal, as their cells are constantly renewing and growing. Hurrah!
In a few hours I'll be leaving on the Southwest Chief for Los Angeles and the convention for people who run science fiction conventions. I think I may be able to post along the way, but don't worry if you don't hear from me for a week.
Now in Kansas City, where my mobile ei-fi hotspot at last found a network it could connect to. Trip has been fairly enjoyable so far. Had a Scotch this afternoon to accompany my reading and sightseeing. Dinner was a decent vegetarian lasagna with, as usual in an Amtrak dining car, god conversation. Only annoyance was the attendant putting down my bed long before I was ready for him to, but I was able to put the seat back up. And the Google verification process wiped out my first message here, but that's another matter.
I have been reading some Arsene Lupin stories (French gentleman thief, contemporary of Sherlock Holmes), and in a story from 1908 it referred to hearing the shriek (!) of an automobile. That clicked, because just a few days ago I watched a YouTUbe video about a 1907 Renault automobile, and it had a big three-note whistle above the left running board, powered by the exhaust. It wasn't demonstrated, but the owner said it could be heard for a considerable distance, unlike the rubber-bulb horn.
Egad, is it getting to be time for that already? But it's always time for Howard.
ReplyDeleteWe had some actual rain today, and more is forecast for tomorrow.

We do, actually. Patty brought it on Friday.
DeleteIt is hard to believe, Alan. Where has the year gone?
Hurrah for some rain for the west coast!!
DeleteWe had some actual rain today, too, Alan! We woke to a light dusting of snow which soon melted, and the rain came softly throughout the day.
Very best of wishes for brave Grandson♥
ReplyDeleteCat, my thanks. ♡

ReplyDeleteAh, Bill, I envy you (the train travel more than the convention, lol!). Traveling mercies!
