  2. DECEMBER IN VERMONT
Words and music by Diane Zeigler 2004
    .

When the snowfall lays her cover
The silence can pull you under
And that shroud can make you wonder
    How you'll make it through
But on a night so cold and long
I know how a heart stays strong
You can travel all the earth
To find out what a place is worth

    Chorus:
Oh, where would you rather see
    Snow on the evergreen
    Softly and tenderly falling down
    Songs on the solstice sing
    Prayers for the traveling
Ever returning to December in Vermont

See the blazing yule before us
Strike a harp and join the chorus
But do you see the folly
When everywhere the sounds implore us
To deck the halls and ring the bells
Calling everyone to buy and sell
But through the crowd and through the noise
May you know a greater joy

    (Chorus)

  5. We're supposed to get some rain Friday...allegedly significant. The wild grasses are growing nicely.

  7. Reflecting upon the hubbub over the Senate's CIA torture program report, I find it most strange what becomes "news" and when. Now we have swarms of poseurs who are SHOCKED, SHOCKED, I SAY! over what anyone with the brains God gave a goose knew long ago. A cynical person might observe that many of the politicians who profess shock were among the ones who approved and enabled said SHOCKING! behavior. The Holy Inquisition gave up torture centuries ago because they realized it didn't work. And how many times have we seen it proven that few "secrets" remain so? The chickens WILL come home to roost. As Justice Brandeis wrote, sunshine is the best disinfectant, as the electric light is the best policeman. There is a lot of disinfecting to be done in the US government.
