listener--I suppose I really *should* use fresh mushrooms. We have some fresh field mushrooms (as well as more exotic kinds) on hand, and I have been invited to use them. Canned is just easier. My prospective recipe isn't really fancy--sort of a cross between swiss steak and pan gravy, which IMO qualify as old-timey bachelor food. (I also add a touch of curry--and some peas--to cream tuna on toast.) Baked beans are a rather exotic food for me--I have had them once or twice, a very long time ago; am I right to gather that they are a New England specialty?
Well, it's the day before Thanksgiving. And you know what? Howard Dean is first!
