  1. So sorry tonight's posted a bit late. The irony is that I was busy writing a post to you all, which is on the last thread, in response to your questions. :-)

  2. D-I-L says the greens in the Breakfast photo are:

"Claytonia greens. Earthy taste, quite healthy!"

    1. I looked at Wikipedia and apparently there are 26 different species of Claytonia, also known as "spring beauty.". Claytonia perfoliata ("miners' lettuce") seems to be the one best known as a salad green, but that is native to the Mountain West so is likely not the one being used in NH.

Bill, this D-I-L is here in Vermont. The restaurant where she works is a half hour from us in Hinesburg, Vermont.

  5. We're DONE!! We're done with all the painting!!! We're done with wallpaper, trim, and painting all the hallways!! Done with everything that HAS to be done before the carpets go in on Friday morning…all, that is, except for actually moving everything out of the downstairs.

After the carpet goes in, we have some fine tuning to do. We have some extra trim to put up, but it can be stained or painted in the garage and touched up after it's nailed in place. Over time we will need to get some tables, and we might wallpaper part of the hallway yet. But now we can do it at a gentler pace and actually do nothing at times! Hurrah!!!!

  6. So it's been some week. In addition to all the renovations, yesterday was the annual Vermont Library Conference, held two towns away from here. We always close the Library and all on staff attend. This year we were all there except for our Director, whose mother had last rites on Friday. That was the last we'd heard, except a note that morning she'd sent to one staffer saying she would not be attending. Shortly after arriving, we learned from someone at the state level that our Library Director's mother died the day before (Monday). We felt sad and it also felt strange to hear it from a near-stranger. She also told us something else we didn't know. The person whose $million donation made our Library possible died on Sunday! (He was 100 years old and had visited the Library for a party in his honour on his birthday last year!) We were stunned that no one had told us, not even the Trustees. So I googled and found his obituary, and we were again stunned to discover that his funeral was taking place right then, at the same time as the Library Conference. In a way that seems apropos. But we mostly felt sad that NONE of us were present at his service. Then we read that he asked that gifts in his honour go to our Library. ( !!! )
