This blog, and The Blog For America before it, is miraculous in so many ways. With the possible exception of Patty and Christine, you guys are the best friends I've ever had. I would be truly lost without you.
Just pre-ordered Engelbert's long-awaited duets CD, due out next month. Among the artists he performs with are Cliff Richard, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Neil Sedaka and, wait for it, Johnny Mathis! I can't wait!
Doing all right. Daughter has been applying to colleges, and, consistent with the level of secrecy she has established as her norm over the past several years, getting any information from her about that process is like pulling teeth. I *do* know that she is not seriously considering any school that is within a day's drive.
Ahem, how is she planning to finance college? In other words, if she expects Mum and Dad to pay her way, she shouldn't, actually, get a say. Them as pays gets to choose. If of course she plans to pay for it herself with scholarships and work, then she does get to choose.
I think Dad working his buns off submitting paperwork qualifies as supporting her. So he and you should get to define the limits, geographical or otherwise, she is allowed to choose from. *shrug* Of course, I only have the experience of my parents with us. I did not have the dubious pleasure of imposing my will on a college applicant, so I can't say how it works from that perspective.
If she can get herself into college (with some paperwork from Dad), that's a good first step to being on her own and independent. It's not a bad thing in general. Rest assured that when she gets ACCEPTED to a college, you will hear about it!! If she gets accepted to more than one, she may need help to make some field trips to actually *see* the colleges. That's where you come in. ;-)
Finally got my replacement glasses ordered today. Should have them in about 2 weeks, And since Great Clips is about a block from the "L" stop, I stopped by to see if my favorite hear cutter was available. She was, so that is also done.
Good for you getting the replacements. Mah*Sweetie just had an eye exam and needs new glasses and sunglasses made. He is putting off the cost, but as he skipped getting new lenses after his last exam, since it wasn't a big change in prescription, he really needs to do it this time.
And you know what I discovered this evening? I actually had a backup pair all along. I got the ones that broke, not because the previous pair had broken as I assumed, but because they had gotten old enough that the prescription was no longer quite right. But they would have been perfectly useful in an emergency. Just like Alan's coffee pot!
Submitted "World Enough and Time" to Weird Tales. It's a shot in the dark, since t hey haven't updated their submission guidelines page in several years. Also, "Spirits from the Vasty Deep" might have been a better fit. Oh well, it's only e-mail, not as if I had to use a stamp. It will be interesting to see if I get any response at all.
Impressionistic indeed. I am quite sure I never had such artistic talent, at her age or any other. It deserves to be nourished, even if she is going to be a mining engineer.
I saw flower shapes. The colors and overall effect reminded me of Gauguin, but like I say I'm no art critic. Alan's right; she needs to have that talent nurtured, whatever she grows up to be.
4 year old Grand is a sweetie, and has such an interesting way of looking at things. Recently she decided she would probably marry her friend Emily rather than her friend Colin because she knows where Emily lives and they shop at the same grocery store. Later she added that boys are not very attentive. We are proud that she has an open mind and a plan.
At age 4 her older sister was pretty sure that boys were deficient as compared with girls. When I wondered why she would think so, Mah*Sweetie suggested, "Casual observation?" ;-)
Howard Dean is First, of course!
ReplyDeleteI've just posted Front Page photos through March 10th. Fun awaits!
ReplyDelete*love* that painting!!
ReplyDeletePurty!
ReplyDeleteHi Renee!
ReplyDeleteThis blog, and The Blog For America before it, is miraculous in so many ways. With the possible exception of Patty and Christine, you guys are the best friends I've ever had. I would be truly lost without you.
Listener, I'm no art critic (*understatement*), but me thinks somebody has talent.

ReplyDeleteOh, and, I forgot! Another one I'm looking forward to is Olivia Newton John.
DeleteDo you know, I read somewhere that she's Max Borne's(sp?) granddaughter?

ReplyDeleteHow are you? We've missed you.

ReplyDeleteOh, Renee!

She seems to be counting on need-based scholarships, and her Daddy has been dutifully submitting all the necessary paperwork.

ReplyDeleteGo Cat Go! And keep us posted! :-)
DeleteThanks for the sweet comments about the painting! Not bad for a FOUR year old, eh? She was content in having filled the entire page. :-)
ReplyDeleteBTW, it's basically a painting of three flowers.
ReplyDeleteI thought parts looked flower-like. Very Impressionistic, though.
