Still working on finding the source of the version of The Internationale I remember from my youth; I begin to suspect that it was a translation by Daniel De Leon. The version of Charles Kerr, particularly as modified by the IWW, became the dominant version in the US. I'm still having a bit of difficulty getting the tune of the first repeat of the refrain exactly right, but it won't take much longer. Singing the words I know over recordings in other languages is fairly easy; over English somewhat difficult. (Makes me think of The King's Speech.)

I took off thirty pounds this past year; I wanted to take off forty. But I think the next ten pounds can wait until after the holidays. Thirty isn't bad at all.
I guess I'm preparing by ordering a new printer. The RAM on my old printer went bad Monday night, and since the cost of a new RAM module is more than half the cost of a newer model printer I decided to go with the new one. A modest annoyance is that the new model (no surprise) takes a different ink stick than the one I had. And there is a lot of ink for the old printer still on hand. But what else is new?
Turns out that Marcus will be making pizza tomorrow night. And since he wants to take a second pizza over to his girlfriends house, it'll probably be ready at a reasonable hour.
Dad picked up our Thanksgiving dinner with no problems. The weather was wet and nasty, but not inordinately cold today.
Mr. Gatsby Kitty went out and took his afternoon nap on the back porch, when any sensible kitty would have been inside. But there's no accounting for kitties.
Interesting article in the New England Journal of Medicine. On an age-adjusted basis, the prevalence of dementia has been declining over the past two decades. This is apparently correlated with better education among those now entering the old-old (80+) population, Which probably means that better educated people take better care of themselves and are more likely to avoid strokes.
Just popping by before I find my pillow for the night. I've spent the day cleaning and cooking and cleaning some more. All is ready except that I need to prepare the carrots for cooking. But everything else is ready to pop into the oven at 10am.
It rained here most of the day, but right on schedule at 4pm the snow began. We have at least 4 or 5 inches so far, and since all was wet when the snow started there is snow on every branch and twig. It is utterly silent outside, too. Gorgeous. I wish I could stay up all night and listen to it.
Have a beautiful Thanksgivvukah, whether you are eating a vegan stuffed squash, turkey and the fixings, or a really good pizza. The main thing is to be thankful…well, at least grateful (since only Thankful can be Thankful ~ LOL ;-) )
What are you most grateful for? I am grateful that all my kids made it safely to their respective locations and grateful that Root*Center*Son is here for a few days! :-)
Howard is Number One here, but Francis seems to have the makings of a REALLY popular, indeed historical, Pope:

The pope's strong condemnation of income inequality and free markets shows how much has changed in the Catholic Church since the Cold War.
