  2. After a very rainy (drizzle) weekend, no rain today. Cloudy, foggy, but no rain. Looking for a bigger rain event later this week.

  3. Another lovely afternoon today. I, er, slept through the morning. Ahem.

You're right, Bill. Storage in the terabyte range really only becomes necessary when you're into photos, videos and music, like Listener and I are.Otherwise it's overkill.

    BTW glorious photo.

  4. An even easier day at work today than yesterday; I had my work done and packed it in at 3:00 PM. We'll surely pay for it during the rest of the week, but I'm glad to have the recovery time. My biorhythms seem to have made it to Salt Lake City and should be here tomorrow. The postcard I sent from Niagara Falls still hasn't arrived at the lab. Did I tell you I got a nice photo with (the statue of) Nicola Tesla at Niagara? Nice weather here again today. Relaxing and cleaning up odds and ends of two weeks (but not too much) are the order of the evening.

    1. One crucial point that the author does not explain is that most Treasury bonds are not like the Series E bonds with which we are familiar. Series E bonds are sold at a fixed price, with the difference between that price and the face value at maturity representing the interest. Most Treasury bond are sold at auction and interest is paid at regular intervals. If investors are satisfied with the interest offered. They'll pay the face price. If they think the interest rate is too low, they may pay $9600 or $9800 for a $10,000 bond. But it's at least imaginable you could have a nominal interest rate so high they would pay $15,600 for that bond. And an interest rate that is super-high for the nominal value -- but not the actual selling price -- is what is being proposed.

  5. Great post, Alan! Good to hear that work has been cooperative. Welcome back to most of yourself tonight, and the rest of yourself tomorrow. ;-)

As for me, I went home from work after just an hour today, as I seem to have some sort of bump under my eyelid. It felt just like I had something in my eye, but it wasn't something that could be flushed out. That was quite disconcerting, as you might imagine, but fortunately only lasted that bad for about 4 hours. It only hurt when I blinked, but the only comfortable way to keep my eye closed was to hold it gently that way with one finger. Not so easy when trying to drive with a stick shift! Fortunately I live just 2 miles from home.

    1. Hope it resolves quickly. If not -- well, I don't have to tell you to see the doctor.

    2. Umm... You live just two miles from home?

Seriously, listener, I hope the problem resolves itself soon! Please don't be stoic about this. Go to the doctor sooner rather than later if it doesn't!

    3. "Fortunately I live just 2 miles from home."

"live" should have read "work"! LOL!
I guess one is working too hard when they get those two words interposed! :-D

The good news is that the feeling that I had grit under my eyelid only lasted about four hours. By 6pm I was feeling much better. The eye is only slightly sensitive today. All good. Probably one of the new viruses in the world, eh?

  6. Penny has figured out why the house has been so cold recently. Our heating system is circulating hot water, and apparently there has been a slow leak for some time. There's just not enough water to fill the radiators. The repairman will be called tomorrow.

  7. BTW listener, I borrowed this magnificent photo for Arty. Just wish I could have added it to an equally breathtaking post.

    1. That is to say, the post is lack luster, to put it kindly. Your photo totally makes it.
