  1. Howard Dean--Yoiks!

Pardon the cut-and-paste link; but here is a story about the preliminary Leicestershire Cathedral plan for a new tomb for Richard III:

It strikes me as as both beautiful and regal--truly worthy of the ages. Despite the great changes in artistic conventions since his time, I should imagine that Richard would be well pleased.

    1. Thanks, Alan. Simple and elegant. Yes, I think Richard probably would be pleased. Doubtless less so over the legal wrangling. I guess I can see why York would want him, but the dispute seems, well, unseemly. He died near Leicester, he was initially buried in Leicester, and seems to me Leicester is where he should stay. It doesn't make this Plantagenet Society look very good to be kicking up this ruckus.

    2. With regard to the link itself, I inadvertently discovered something interesting. If you highlight the link and right click, you can "Open Link in New Tab." Probably works even if you don't highlight, just put your mouse on the link.

    3. It seems to be browser-dependent, cat. (I find it convenient to keep multiple browsers at the ready--that also gets one past the NY Times paywall, BTW.)

    4. The reason multiple browsers get one past the paywall is evidently that the free story counter depends on one or more cookies that are sent to the browser. So read the maximum number of articles, switch to another browser and get another ten or whatever it is. Another way is to use a browser (such as the one on my old-fashioned Kindle) that is not advanced enough to accept and use cookies. No cookies, no paywall. I suppose extirpating the cookies as needed would do the same thing. Not that I read the NYT that much, just sayin'.

    5. It's a good idear to clear cookies from time to time anyway.

    1. Thanks, listener. But it's too late now in any event. Miyoko did a little mending on the sleeve of my old jacket and will put a Velcro closure on the inside pocket, and then it should be fine for the trip, if a little faded. That's OK--I'm a little faded too. [grin] I can't be sure of my weight because my water balance is messed up after working the weekend, but I must be around 170 lbs (about 40 lbs lost) by the time we depart. That's pretty good.

    2. Also, the mending of the jacket sounds like good old Yankee frugality to me. Howard would be proud.

  3. Bright, clear, chilly day today. Winter is a coming in. . . .

So we have summer and fall, and thoughts of winter all in one day, lol!

    1. It was warm and muggy here yesterday. It rained all last night with lows high 50s to low 60s. This morning was overcast with spits of rain, really quite uninviting. But this afternoon was beautiful, cool and sunny. By early evening, it was getting to be downright cold. I was glad of my flannel lined barn jacket when Patty, Sara and I came out of Friendly's round about 7:30.

    2. Friendly's? Isn't that where Zonker Harris works?

  4. So, long weekend, so to speak, with VT*Grand staying here with us from Friday afternoon until late this afternoon. WIthin a half hour of her leaving, Sweetie and I were both sound asleep in our recliners! LOL! I totally missed the moment when Summer turned to Autumn.

This evening we watched the Film "The Quartet." HIGHLY recommended!!

    1. That's why parenthood is for the young. *grin*

I missed the big moment too.

  5. Kind'a antsy. I submitted a quiz a few days ago and find myself constantly going back to Fun Trivia to check for the message telling me either that the quiz has been accepted or that it is, so to speak, being returned for further work. This wouldn't be quite such a big deal except you may only submit one quiz at a time, even if the second would be submitted in a different category than the first. Since I have another ready to go, the wait seems longer than usual.

  6. Don't think I mentioned that last week, in addition to the books I reported, I also read Redshirts by John Skalsy(sp?), a rollicking good read, if one with a few serious underpinnings, and The Colors of Space by MZB. I started this one a few months ago but couldn't get into it. This time around I enjoyed it. Might not read tonight, kind'a tired. We'll see.
