  1. "I just think that's unacceptable. If this passed I would have to reevaluate if I belong in the Democratic Party. If this were passed with Democratic votes, I think it would be impossible to be Democrat."

-- Howard Dean, quoted by BuzzFeed, excoriating the White House over the increased in defense spending in President Obama's budget proposal.

    1. Personally I think Howard should have smelled the coffee back when he was running and the Democratic party "elite" turned mob on him. I was one of the many who thought he should start a third party. I believe he had enough people who felt as he did to make it work. I voted against Mitt Wit, but not really *for* Obama. In my estimation he is the best Republican president we've ever had. Clinton was the runner-up.

I am totally, 100% SICK of Barack playing "Statesman" at the expense of the 99%. The Republicans hate his guts, they always will. Why doesn't he get it?

    2. Susan, I was all for Dean leaving the Dems back then too. He didn't and it surprised me when he became Party Chair. But, he is such a pragmatist. He could see a place where he could make a difference, and could see that the fastest way of defeating the Republicans was to get the Dems elected. It would have taken longer with a third party.

I am glad he sees what we see, too, though. While I wish President Obama would be harder on the Republicans (and Dems!), I also remember what happened to Jimmy Carter. And I have to say that President Obama's words yesterday in the wake of the Boston explosions were just right. I couldn't help but think how very different his response was than what W's would have been.

    3. Obama showed me everything I needed to see when he dissed and dismissed Howard after O. was elected President. He gave Howard no role at all in his government, even though it was solely due to Howard's influence that Dems picked up so many seats in '06. It was pretty widely rumored in '08 that Howard wanted some position in Obama's government, but none was given to him. Instead Obama surrounded himself with conservatives from both parties. And Rahm? He despised Howard Dean *and* his supporters. Obama is a wonderful orator, and probably a nice-enough man.... but he is certainly in need of a spine transplant. His cowardice annoys me. The wingers and teabaggers have him cowed and they know it. He is Charlie Brown eternally trying to kick the football and never connecting.

    1. Best thing I've heard in awhile is that Christian Evangelicals have begun to embrace Peace as their center point.

    2. Very glad to see this, Alan. I went with my gay nephew to his Bishops Court. I and his partner were not allowed in with him; we sat in the hall for three hours while a dozen grown men badgered the chit out of him. He basically decided not the leave the church, broke up with his partner, and has gained a couple of hundred pounds in the past ten years. I doubt he'll live much past 40. But he's not "gay" any more. . . .
