I saw a flash of lightning last night, and it seems there were scattered showers (we didn't have any).
I located the court records of the settlement of my great-great-great-grandfather's estate in 1810--in the Ontario Archives. My mind boggles. Well, come September I plan to spend half a day there, and half a day at a museum looking over a copy of church records from 1793 to maybe 1850. Gotta be sure not to hog the whole vacation… It would be more convenient to fly in and out of Toronto, but Montreal is about $400-$500 less expensive from the U.S. west coast. Why, I have no idea.
I think Toronto is a major busy hub like Chicago. Montreal gets less air traffic. It's two hours north of me; I used to take Amtrak up to Montreal for seminary studies.
Maybe the landing fees and gate fees are lower in Montreal; and it occurs to me that perhaps the airplanes on that route are more economical to operate. Hmmmm... but on the way back from Monteal the airplane leaves Montreal and stops in Toronto to take on passengers--but they have to pay higher fares than those getting on in Montreal! Landing and departure charges must be higher in Toronto. If one were going to Toronto on business, or were not going to travel much outside the Toronto region, the higher price would make no difference. But since we are planning to spend some time in Quebec anyway, it does. The difference will get us a car for ten days, no problem. I considered using the regional airline, Porter Air, for longer segments--until I read about their labor-management relations, which are awful.
This is weird. I just checked. For an early-winter trip (when I will be going to Toronto), a round trip from here to there and back is $387.40. A round trip from here to Montreal and back is $387.40.
Is it possible that, for your dates, the cheap seats to and from Toronto are already sold out?
*Very* late to bed (5 a.m.)--result of a long awaited five hour talkathon with Thankful. Who is surviving. Perhaps winter is nearing its end, at long last. She says, "Hi!"
Sproing!!! For Dean!
