APRIL...plus candles

This shows the triptych APRIL that I painted for Mah*Sweetie's birthday a few years ago. It is three views from the Causeway (former train path across the Lake!), showing (left to right) Mount Mansfield (VT), Camel's Hump (VT) and Whiteface Mountain (NY). Also in the case are four pair of candles that I dipped on Candlemas, a photo journal of the process, and some of the supplies I used.

Also in the display case are what's left of two Paschal candles that I decorated for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church over the years. When I give them a new one, they give me back the old one.

  1. puddle--I salute you for hanging in there at the former Dean For America blog.

    VERY good indeed.

We are supposed to get several days of rain this week! Well, possible, anyway.

listener "…if those who have a faith tradition are supposed to be sensitive to not offending those who don't do religion, it ought to follow that those who don't do religion need to be sensitive to not offending those who have a faith tradition." Being "against" something binds one to it; having a truly different frame of reference allows one to share freely where there are intersections, the way I see it. No need to be offensive, and even where there are truly great and sincere differences, one can easily enough keep them to oneself as a matter of civility. Hmmmm..... I have a vague recollection of an old Taoist story (indeed, I might be confusing a couple of them, but so what). A fellow comes up to a Taoist wise man and starts asking him questions about the nature of the Tao and its relationship with people and such complicated things. The teacher stops him, points across the valley and says "See that blue mountain over there?" The questioner replies "Yes," and the teacher tells him "That you can understand; now let's have a drink." And thus to bed.

  2. Alan, its funny about how the birds grip us. I can still get that feeling of awe just *remembering* the ONE time I saw a cormorant in my river. Still seems like a miracle. And my first and ONLY time seeing a Scarlet Tanager (bathing, no less) down crick from where we were sitting (very quietly!).

Going to be a cool week, dipping on Wednesday and then coming back up to the sixties by Friday. If I want to get my washing done this week, today is the day. . . . Then the boys coming for the weekend: be pleasant to have some company.

Good point! And, for that matter, is Biden staying on?

    Alan...Ahhhh, civility...!

So, Ally has a scan on Friday, and we just learned that Bill's brother, who came through pancreatic cancer last year, has a lesion they're going to biopsy tomorrow.

  4. How's the washing going?

  5. Well, wash is finished being washed. And rinsed. And mostly is hung on the line. Exceptions: the biggest, thickest comforter I own and a pillow, which are still draining on the bridge with the hope they'll be a big lighter by the time I have to haul them to the line. . . . Sixty and windy, so they should dry pretty fast once they're up. Dang good day's work!

  6. 66F and Windy sounds good!

    We have 43F and rainy.

But don't get me wrong! I'm not complaining. We need the rain very very much.

  7. Done. ALL up. And there's a cold wind coming in over the mountains. Freeze warning tonight. Think my grandmothers might have figured that one out, lol!

  8. Forgot to mention that for the first time in weeks, maybe months, Stevie got up this morning when I came in with breakfast, and walked maybe ten steps! The rest of the day has been butt scooting as usual. As has *become* usual. But it was good to see.

The blue paint is almost totally gone except from his tail, which he can't reach to groom. If you didn't know, you wouldn't know.

  9. So pleased to hear of dear Stevie's good moment! =^. .^=

He's become a legend in his own time around here.
