  3. When I woke u8p about 9:30, it was already snowing, though not very hard.

  4. Boy's under the porch again, lol! Not too cold, so will rescue him in about an hour. He *is* good exercise, whether I will or won't. . . .

  5. Dare one say it? Some people, and puppies, never learn.

  6. I feel like I'm somehow failing as a teacher, lol! Other things, he picks up on his own. But he seems to have a deep and abiding interest in being under the porch -- till he gets there, and can't get back out. I think it's related to the need to dig holes which he also has with nobs on.

He *likes* coming up to bed with me, and if he's tired, bugs me mercilessly to come up with him, and observes any sign that I might be going up. On the other hand, he never seems to be all that interesting in eating, though he'll eventually break down and do it.

  7. Is it possible that his interest in being under the porch has something to do with the way dogs den?

  8. Weird puppy. I love eating. Of course, people food is rather more interesting than dog food. Look at it this way. At lest you don't have to worry about him getting fat.

  9. The amount of rain in the forecast has been decreased, but at least we got some and might get a bit more. Blue sky, white and gray clouds, clear air (we needed that), modest temperatures. A morning to relax, midday potluck impending.

Sampled a modern super premium French absinthe last night. Interestingly, the difference in price between good or even OK but pedestrian absinthe and the deluxe stuff is not nearly so great as with whiskey or wine. But one must beware; since there is in most countries no legal definition of absinthe, there are real rotgut imitations out there that are priced like fairly good stuff. Caveat emptor.

  10. My guess is VERY likely. Before the barriers, he'd always manage to start working on a "cavity". . . . right at the out looking edge. The new arrangement with the wood laying on the outward edge, the available dirt is almost under the house, and he hasn't tried it. Yet.

  11. Ah, Cat, he's much more interested in food than Roosevelt ever was: that dog, I had to cook for or he'd go days without eating. He'd stand there and let Tuff eat all his food, and not even care. You'd think a 120 pound dog would be profoundly interested in food, eh?

  12. Well, got the barrier back up. This time nailed. Hope it takes, lol!

Chilly and gray, but the rain/ice stopped a good while ago, taking most of the snow with it.

  15. One light shower came our way as I was working on getting the second new peach tree planted, so I knocked off and took an (indoor) shower. Came out, and the weather had cleared up nicely, so I went out and finished the job. (I planted it close to the old tree it will replace, so had a lot of roots to cut and pull out. The old tree will still produce some fruit while the new one is growing up.)

  16. As we expected, and as seems so very common here, at the potluck no one but us brought any vegetables. Plenty of sweets, though. It really is odd that so few people are normal like us...

  17. Ah, yes, South Carolina: Too small for a country, too big for an insane asylum. Put me down for an uptight codger, but I thought it was a bad idea to elect Reagan in view of the fact he was divorced; but he was a choir boy compared to Gingrich.

  19. Corrected quotation:
"South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum."
    --James L. Petigru

And let's not defame green slime...

  22. Happily Home! Had a blast with our grands and a really nice visit with our kids too!! We even went over to the park in 16 degree weather so they could go ice skating. Well, 5 year old grand had ice skates, and 2 year old grand ran on the ice! They have no fear...which is probably because they are brief to the ground and well padded. LOL!
