Oops! Woke this morning with fairly severe pain. But, nope, not related to the surgery. Or related in only the most cockeyed way, lol! Post surgical leg swelling does not seem to be at all uncommon, commencing AFTER leaving hospital. No known reason, just fact. Because I was already (and *still*) working on it from the first hospitalization, and had the meds to hand, it hasn't gotten as bad this time. But being extra tired of it, followed the recs more closely. Put two pillows under mattress at the foot end. As it was working rather well, tried three and woke with hip/neck pain from trying to sleep in a bowl. Was still on the Roxy during that experiment. Last night, went ahead and took the acetaminophen, and went to bed just before midnight. Woke at three thirty with shooting pain in both hips and both shoulders. Got up and took the first dose of Roxy in two days. And waited an hour or so for it to start working, and went back to bed. Not sure what I'll be doing tonight before bedtime.
Sleeping on one's side with elevated feet is difficult, I think because it flexes the legs in a direction they weren't meant to be flexed. Haven't been taking naps the last few days, so evidently was in a deeper sleep, and didn't toss as much, allowing the pain to get bigger until it woke me. Hospital beds are likely better, because pretty much the way the foot is raised keeps you from even trying to sleep on your side. Armed with all this. . . . I don't know.
Other than that, it looks to be an absolutely gorgeous day! Already 35º and on schedule to get to the predicted 60º. Blue with tiny white clouds!
Hooboy! This just in from my neighbor: I just heard that all phones in Pendleton county will be cut off today - major blow up in Elkins and the only way they can fix it is to take the whole system down - could be down for an hour or could be down for much, much longer - they don't have a clue - hope you all get this before the cut off.
Thanks for the caution, Cat--I know from previous experience to be careful; I once overdid the exercises I received from a physical therapist and did hurt myself a bit. Only three one-minute partial stretches yesterday as per the yoga site and:
1) no limping 2) able to walk up and down a short flight of stairs normally 3) no acute pain in knee immediately upon arising this morning
puddle: Do keep double checking that leg. Post up leg pain could be an infection, so watch for signs (including simply feeling disoriented!).
Note to World: My computer has been acting a bit flaky. If I seem to disappear, phone or send SnailMail. :-) Photos for out front are up through the 23rd anyway. Hoping to avert crisis, but off doing backups.
Nope. No leg pain. Leg swelling AND hip (both) and shoulder (both) pain --> caused by trying to solve the swelling. It's kinda like trying to sleep on your side inside a crescent moon. . . .
Rain this morning melted most of the snow. But the temperature has now dropped and the rain has turned to snow. Penny tells me it is quite icy, so she is skipping her almost-daily trip to the grocery store.
Well, almost as soon's the rain started the Goobey pulled down my jury rigged barrier. Luckily for me, it was not raining that hard. And I did remember to bring his leash, so he sat very nicely whilst I was untangling the cable. Neither of us got very wet, but boy this is getting tiresome!
That cue Dean fella is first.
ReplyDeletePuddle, sounds like you're doing well. I'm sooooooooo glad!
Alan, good luck with the leg. Take it easy though when not under the care of a PT. We don't want you to hurt yourself inadvertently.

So don't send Sheriff Chuck!
So far, so good.

I am pleased.

"Post up pain" should read "Post op pain". LOL!
ReplyDeleteDon't send Sheriff Chuck here either.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should all go down there and take him out to dinner. ;-)

ReplyDeleteDon't think legs are intended to have that particular relationship with your hip sockets.
ReplyDeleteLol! My uproad neighbor's laptop crashed a few days ago, but she managed to get it pretty much all back, all by herself. Vibes your way!
ReplyDeleteWe're sure not going to make sixty today. Hovering just a bit above forty. But *feels* balmy as can be.

ReplyDeleteI think Goobey -- er, isn't that Babey? -- needs a good talking to.
ReplyDeleteDang! He did it again!
ReplyDeleteAgree, lol! But sure wish he'd listen. . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks ever so much! Still tickin' so far.
