Climate change episode of Frozen Planet won't be shown in the U.S. as viewers don't believe in global warming

  2. Shall we believe that the only vegetable the English eat is Brussels sprouts?

  3. I set out for court in another (and unfamilar) city yesterday and realized I had forgotten my printed directions. Remembered I had a Kindle with Internet access, so tried Google Maps--it worked OK. Experimentation this evening revealed that the mobile web version of MapQuest works better. Yep, a good buy. (I DID pull over to use it...)

Court cases are popping up all over, which is typical towards the end of the year--they want to clear them out and use up this year's allocation of $$.

  4. When I was the young wife of an electrical engineer, my life, along with the rest of the wives, went like this: July through December were lovely -- da boy had plenty of interesting things to do at work 'cause all the gubbmint agencies they subcontracted to had lotsa bucks. Families were content. Started slowing in January, 'cause the money was running out. Daddy's became very cranky and picky. Picked up again in April, 'cause they wanted to use *all* their money lest next year's appropriations be smaller because they "didn't even use up what we gave you. . . . " Don't know what it's like now, because fiscal years start at a different date than in the 60's.

  5. Well, never got the snow. Did get a rather chilly day though, mid thirties. Not that Beau was complaining -- I kept *dragging* him in to get warm, and then he'd insist on going out again.

  6. Thanks for pulling over!!

You might want to check out a good GPS app. :-)

  7. These days they judge what gets done by quarters. They do a lot at the start of a quarter, but quickly use up their funds and things lag until the start of the next quarter. They send out payment checks the same way. Any company that is now overdue in paying our business for services already rendered is not likely to cut us a check until the first week in January.

What I remember most about my days as a young wife of an electrical engineer is that engineers cannot tell time to save their lives (or livelihoods)! They get home a little late, and they definitely cannot plan a project that will end when they thought it would. LOL!

  8. The day began warm (upper 50's) but we're down into the 40's now.

  9. We did get snow overnight. Not much. Just a few inches gone by noon. I bought a cover for my windshield because I have to park outside. I was very glad I'd put it on last night because I just whipped it off the window (think magician whipping a cloth from a table) and the window was clean. Lovely.

Finished all my shopping for the grands today and I am so done with the holiday. We're not getting together this year and I admit to being glad. It's always lots and lots of preparation and work and I'm too dang tired to do it any more. I usually don't even enjoy the company because I'm running back and forth catering.

  10. Understand. My last one was almost ten years ago. Now I just drive down to DC, and the kid does the cooking. 8 hour round trip is much easier, lol!

  12. Here's a sweet moment to share:

Daughter's dearest friend has a little girl who is about 3 1/2 years old. They are very observant, conservative Jews. It may be argued that her little girl is the most observant in the family, for Daughter's friend revealed this week:
"She saw a small nativity scene near our B&B...'Look Daddy! It's Abraham and Sarah and baby Isaac!' Mom added: "So... when do we break it to her?"

    :-D Where's Donna when I need her?

Susan...I am sooo glad you get a break this year! We're having the whole Fam party at Daughter's the weekend before Christmas, then having a quiet, holy Christmas weekend. Perfect.

  13. End of quarter busy-ness. And I've still got a cold. Maybe it's a different cold by now.

Don't know anything about classes for next quarter. Really need to update my resume to apply to teach *psychology* somewhere else, but right now there's just no time.

  14. Daughter told me one of the twins was watching their cat, Milo, sleep. She watched his sides going up and down with his breathing for a while. Then she turned to Mom and said, "Look, Mommy. He's pumping up his fur."

I just love the new and unique way the littles look at the world.

  15. It *could* be Abraham and Sarah and baby Isaac. There's nothing that says a symbol can have only one meaning, and that meaning fits.

  16. 8-) Set up a time to tell that to the ultra conservative so-called-Christians and I'll sell tickets.

  19. Hey, Christians have been appropriating celebrations, customs, personages, symbolism, and places from other religions for a long time; isn't turnabouts fair play? As for the case at hand, wasn't the birth of Jesus in April about AD 4? And isn't it celebrated around the Winter Solstice so that Roman Christians could secretly celebrate under the guise of celebrating Saturnalia?
